Because the air and fuel were both dropped 1 (5-7 to 4-6), the results won't be much different? In my opinion. By reducing both, nothing changed. You would need to lower just the feed by 1, or raise the air by 1?

5-8 or 4-7 would allow more air and/or less fuel and eject more ash.

if the OP is running at 9-9 the bottom settings will matter none at all. bottom feed stoves the trim settings only affect heat ranges 1 and 2

take a very close look at the hopper seals, when air is pulled down the feed system it tends to push the flame at the glass. now after a couple bags or so you will start to soot the glass a bit. also tends to make a white ash coating so what you see it not far from normal.

hardwood pellets do tend to clinker more than softwood but it helps in keeping as much fly ash out of the heat exchangers. note running on high will load the areas behind the baffle much quicker so keep that clean back there

Mike, I thought this used to depend on what year the stove was built? Memory is not so good....lol

actually it has to do with the stove type, if its a "2 auger" stove its only the low end, if its a "1auger top feed stove" it controls the whole table
