Muffler Modification?

    I kinda like them loud :)

    The 290 series don't forget to mod the cover plate also

    They should also be gutted (baffle taking out IMO)

    If you want. He has said that you can tune by ear. Which you can do. Its best to have a tach but not necessary I'd u follow his directions.

    I don't have one. I'm no mastermech but have tuned a saw a few times

    It's a fun toy, but if you're carving mufflers then you're going to be able to hear what's happening much easier than a stock muffler. I like mine for tuning bone-stock saws where it's difficult to distinguish the four-stroking sound from clean and lean running. It's also handy if you need a hard reference point such as setting the governed RPM on a generator, lawn tractor, etc.

    Saws, especially loud saws ;), can be tuned quite well just by ear.

    Yea I remember u saying that more free flowing saw are easier to hear.

    U can get a tac that has a tiny wire to wrap on the plug wire from amazon. There probably cheaper and not as handy but if only tuneing a saw every so often it not so bad.

    Well with me being a newbie in this department. I'd rather get all my eggs lined than get some suprise while in the middle of it. I appreciate all the great information. My game plan will be for me to try the farm boss first, then go for the 362.

    I tore my house apart looking for the copy I printed of the picture when I modded my saw. Couldn't find it online, couldn't find it in my saved files, finally found it in the house.

    Skip the cheap tach. Way too slow of a refresh rate to do anything on the high end. I had the cheapo. I could never bring myself to hold the throttle long enough to display max rpm. Were talking 10+ seconds and still never got the highest reading. Very nerve racking for an inexperienced tuner with underfunded CAD.

    Fwiw you would be much better off tuning by ear than using the cheapo. I got the tech tach now. Worth every penny. $85 I think.

    Ok... Just did the muffler mode. But as I was getting ready to tune the carb. I started to try to turn the H side and it was already against the way against the top side. The Low was just off the top. This seems quite a bit difference than what the manual shows as a standard setting. Is this odd?

    Sounds like there are still limiters in place on the carb screws. Those need to come off.

    Have u pulled the red limiter caps out yet? That saw should not even run if its all the way out?? It should bog like crazy n smoke.

    Ok...will those be noticeable ( inside or outside of carb)? I assume pull the whole top cover off.... Then?

    Yes, this was just off the shelf 6 or 7 years ago. Never had done anything to it beside fuel & bar oil. Thank you.

    pull the plastic cover off. They are inside the hole recess but around the screw head. Grab them with needle nose and pull out. U can cut the tab off and slide back in. I leave mine out but some say it keeps the screws from vibrating out of adjustment.Personally I not had that. Once tab is cut u can turn it like its not there.

    And yes there easily seen when u look.
