Furnace users - damper question

    I'm working on my SCF 050 install, and getting close to being done. I have the exhaust done, and the Pellet vent pro was great to work with. Went together easily, and nothing is leaking.

    I need to hook it up to the house ducting now. I know I need a backdraft damper in the SCF ducting, and that's easy. There are 10" backdraft dampers for sale all over the place. However, I'm having trouble finding a damper for my LP furnace.

    I know that I can cut a slot and just slide a piece of metal in place, and I may just end up doing that, but if I can put an actual damper in place, that would be preferable. The plenum is 19x24.

    Any thoughts?

    Your best bet may be to contact a local HVAC shop and see if they can fab one up for you. The limiting factor for me was the A coil for my air conditioner and the way some of the runs come off the plenum in my oil furnace. I'd have had to replace the plenum and change a lot of duct work to fit a damper in. That's why I went with the manual damper plate that I slide in at the start of the heating season. The plate will swing up when the oil furnace blower kicks on, so if I forget to remove it or if the oil burner kicks in I won't have any issues.

    I installed 2 manual dampers. Much easier. Although that deems the LP furnace useless unless we manually change them, but we only use it for A/C anyway. So it works out.

    Did you see the Harman on CL in Painesville? OMG!! I may buy it!! Comes with the optional 3 speed blower, all venting that they have, and any duct work. $2700!!! :)

    Unless you want to call on it? Your stove isn't even in yet, so it's more ideal.

    Wow. Nice deal. Looks brand new. I texted him and he still has it, but who knows if he still will have it on Saturday when I finally have time to get there. Even then, I'll have the minivan with kids in it, so who knows if I can even squeeze a PF 100 in the back of a Town and Country. If you get there first, no worries. All is fair in love, war, and pellet (furnace) hunting.:yes:

    Btw, any pics of your damper set up? I don't have plans to run the LP at all, unless we're gone for an extended period of time, but I'd rather not rely on the high limit switch in case someone (aka ME) screws up and lets the furnace turn on. It would be nice to have a damper will open automatically.

    When I use the furnace, the freestanding stove upstairs will kick on a little later. I leave the stats set 5° apart.

    They are not a 100% positive stop (no seal like an actual back draft damper) so I lose some warm air (a few percent) out of them, but it works for me.

    I have to work Saturday 100%, but Sunday I may be off? Or does your van have a Reese hitch? I'd let you borrow my trailer? Your call..

    I want it, but I don't need it. If I bought it? I would have to redo a lot of stuff (and do it right).

    Thanks for the offer of the trailer and help. I think I'm going to just keep the SCF for now. Between that and the CPM, I have 97K btu of pellet heat. I hope that's enough:shiver:. The Revolution would be a better fit for my house, and I may just upgrade to one of those in the future if I can get my hands on a decent used unit, or if they start making them again in a year or two. The exhaust set up is exactly the same, so it would be an easy upgrage. Although the Harman is tempting...it's all yours.

    I ordered a damper through the company that ivanhoe suggested. Custom made to the size I wanted, $57 shipped to my house. I was pretty happy with that. I also ordered the transition from the 10" duct to the main trunk of the ductwork. Just need to order the damper for the SCF, get some ducting, and put it together. Can't wait. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Thank you for posting that tid bit of info and what you paid. Mine may be more or less, but I was thinking much more. Heck, I paid more than that for my 2 manual units!!!

    Ivanhoe, thanks for the link. I am going to send my dimensions to them as well. My wife has no clue how I switch over from A/C to pellet furnace. It would be nice if she didn't have to know, and could just select as she pleased (if anything ever happens to me)

    I know! I was expecting it was going to be at least $100, so I was pleasantly surprised. I'll let you know how it is when I get it. The rep thought it would be 5-7 days. Hopefully it's here by the weekend and I can get it put together.

    I called the company in Texas, and they gave me the name of my local rep out of Toledo. I can PM you his number if you're interested.

    Thanks to all here, the 4th season of use, will bring a properly installed furnace :thumbs: The new 10" pieces are in and I am waiting on one little piece.
