It was too hot to cut firewood today but I did anyway. We have some major rain coming.
Started on those two black cherry from yesterday. Was lucky they did not barber chair they were really leaning.

    IMG_4687.jpeg IMG_4688.jpeg

Then I moved to the small hick and dropped a dead red on the old corn picker. I had use two wedges to get it there. Didn’t want to drop it on the trail. It worked. Got 2 nice jags,,

    IMG_4689.jpeg
    IMG_4690.jpeg

Then I found 4 dead reds all in a tight area. Two on the ground and two hung up. Got 55 rounds in these two rows.

    IMG_4691.jpeg

    IMG_4692.jpeg

I never even got to dead red #4 I threw a chain and said screw it I am done. Don’t even know if #4 is any good did not cut in to find out.

it was a good day in the woods just hot,,

Last pic shows an invader in my woods. Japanese Knotweed. Had to google it. It’s only invaded so far right next to the county highway. It’s not anywhere else so far,,

I'm guessing the heart wood on #4 is still good. Worth sticking a saw into it.

The big hung up black locust is on the ground. I took another two slices off him the other day but couldn’t get him down.

    IMG_4694.jpeg

So my Amish buddy came over with his skid loader and did the deed. His payment was about six large puff ball mushrooms. More than a 5 gal pail would hold. Amish eat anything.

Wow, you have been really busy, my friend. That's some nice rounds you have cut. Sure wish we had the BL.
You'll be restocked on your inventory quick, working like that

We’ve had 2.2 inches of rain here in the last 48 hours. No cutting. Today was sunny so I went to the woods.
I got 35 good rounds and some limb wood out of the black locust that was hung up in the walnut. The walnut was damaged I am thinking it will become firewood next spring.

    IMG_4696.jpeg IMG_4695.jpeg

Then I dropped an oak that had lost his top right near one of my trails. easy peasy

    IMG_4697.jpeg

Onto another top less oak with some elm and locust as collateral damage. IMG_4698.jpeg

Went back where I finished up the other day on a downed oak #4. It was good very little punk.

    IMG_4699.jpeg

Then on my way out I dropped 2 small hickory near my wood pile in an effort to get more sunlight in.

    IMG_4700.jpeg

I think I am done cutting this fall in my woods. I head to the old junkyard Monday if no more rain falls.

My Amish neighbors love puff ball mushrooms. My wife and I gave them 17 so far from our woods. Now today I found the mother lode. These 3 were growing amidst about 20-25 that are the size of golf balls. Gonna give the golf balls 2-3 days and go grab em.

    IMG_4701.jpeg

Their method is wash, slice thin, leave wet, dredge them in light flour then fry/simmer them in a cast iron tall sided pan with bacon grease and butter.

This is almost the exact recipe that I use, but I have one more step...Once they turn a nice golden-brown color with nicley crisped edges, I remove them from the pan and place them directly in the trash can!

Got over to the old junkyard this morning. Could not cut all day had to mow the lawn. As I driving in to the property I had two greeters gobbling their fool heads off. Not ten feet away.

    IMG_4719.jpeg IMG_4717.jpeg

The first downed oak provided 44 rounds! And a collateral elm.

    IMG_4720.jpeg
    IMG_4721.jpeg
Found a no bark elm across a trail so he became firewood.

    IMG_4722.jpeg

Another small oak next to a trail. Might be camp fire wood.

    IMG_4723.jpeg
A big black cherry that was surrounded by metal. I did the best I could then got out of dodge.

    IMG_4724.jpeg

Called it a day after dropping a dead red and dead small black walnut.

    IMG_4725.jpeg

Got about 2 quarts of pre mix left I’ll go back in the morning

Not sure if I am going to cut today. I don’t feel comfortable leaving rounds on property I don’t own. Those rounds may develop feet and walk away. I think I will haul rounds instead.

There are lots of people hanging around this old junkyard. I saw one of the owners yesterday she said these folks are “potential buyers”.

Get them home at least. Half them to save your back.

If I'm suspicious I'll only cut what I can take. Ive gone back to a cut and rounds were gone. Luckily most of my cuts now are exclusive for me.

I did not cut in the junkyard. I hauled 5 loads of rounds to my monster woods pile. My plan is to use the gas hydro. But I have much hauling from the pile before I can do this.
