So my EcoSmart 27 electric tankless water heater went out last Saturday late afternoon, and I've been wanting to try a heat pump water heater, so I googled them and an ad for HD popped up showing them at $699. So I tried to get it in the altoona store, but it wasn't actually in stock. So I was able to get one in Johnstown. About 40 minutes away. Picked it up Sunday morning and commenced to putting it in. I set it up near the woodstove and electric panel. Had to run some new pex lines, put in a 30amp breaker, and luckily found some 10/3 cable here. (Didn't actually need the neutral wire though. )
This is the 4th Rheem heat pump water heater I've installed and I would recommend this unit. It has a 10 year warranty on parts and I can't believe it was $1000 off!
My stove room is about 15x18 and the water heater definitely cools the room down while it's running. This morning i put a thermometer in there. It cooled the room from 68 to 63° after Miss July got a shower.
Thanks for info TurboDiesel i had bought one before Covid and before I installed it, rental unit needed one so it went there.. when govt rebates they started at $2,800 here and 10 months after fed stops rebates back to normal prices .. one HD close is GE eco smart similar size price warranty prefer Rheem but not enough travel 2.5 hours to get it.. unless a trusted member says why it’s worth driving
I couldn't find that price at any local stores...HD is weird about that. You can usually buy at the sale price using the correct store #, then pick it up at the local store, at least used to be that way. You are correct about the temp drawing down in the summer...feels good though, as the humidity is lower too. The temp will be largely unaffected when the stove is on.
That price still works using the Johnstown store...and still shows 1 in stock. And can buy for $629 if buying 3 or more! Still $1699 locally...but looks like it can be delivered for as low as $55. So this is like it was in the past...you buy it from HD xxx location, then pay for shipping to your house...or I think there used to be a free option to pick it up at the local store too...yup, there it is...looks like I buy up to 5 of them to be delivered at the local store for free. Hmmm... Edit, nope, can't buy in PA store and pick up in OH...the price goes back to normal when you try...rats!
