Hit the score today. Typical full half cord plus load cut. 241 ran solo. 462 along for the ride. 50% elm, balance of cottonwood and Norway maple. Seventh load from this location and 18th from the source. Maybe ten cords total. Elm rounds went into my friends shed to sleep (as MikeInMa puts it) for a year or so. The other wood was split off the truck. The general cordage Norway got stacked. 75% of a half cord rack filled. Some of the cottonwood went to fire pit inventory. Bundle splits will get moved next week. Four plus loads left at the score. At least one of each species. Elm will go to my friend. Ill cut at least another load next week. May check out a new score tomorrow.
Moved all the bundle splits and the mound of nuggets on Saturday. Wood yard looking cleaner everyday. Checked out a score prior, but a steep hill was the stopper. He later decided to keep the wood which was some Goldilocks Norway maple and Bradford pear...the only reason I'd go after it. May split the remaining half cord of rounds on hand and assemble some bundles.
Split the half cord of red maple rounds I had waiting. Load was cut a couple months ago from my Maple Jackpot score. Thought I had an old pic, but don't. General cordage splits topped off a half cord of mixed maple. Moved the bundle splits next door. Pretty much caught up with processing. I have another new score to check out close by maybe today. Probably cutting another load from the current score later this week, but heavy rains forecasted will make it a muddy mess.
Weather changed my plans for the day so killed some time at the woodyard. Top covered a stack, moved some splits, ran the hydro a bit. Had some oak to tweak and split. One had a crotch that when split had this odd flattened football shaped object pop out that turned out to be a tennis ball that the tree had crushed as it grew. First for me. Checked out a potential score from FBM. Big chunks of cherry and maple. Some with rot. Not worth my effort.
Did a pruning job today. Same source as post #30. Removing some larger limbs from a red maple yard tree. Couple loads of brush to the compost center. Ended up with 20% of a cord. I saved anything 3" and bigger.
Found this score newly listed on FBM Friday. Lady replied right away and I grabbed the "decent" mulberry yesterday. Easy park and load save for the big trunk chunks. Spent some time editing them with the battery saw here. Ill split it tomorrow at storage. Saved some sawdust for cold smoking some cheese when the weather cools. One of my neighbors who spends winters in Florida, brought me 2 loads in his side by side of what was standing dead barkless that has fallen. He thinks one load is oak. That should make some heat! Anyway, this is my favorite kind of summertime hoarding.
Special thanks to buzz-saw for some fresh cut Goldilocks red maple I grabbed at his place yesterday. Processed that along with the mulberry from Saturday right off the truck yesterday. Stacked the maple from that and Fridays job in a temporary spot. Maybe a face cord total. It will get moved when a rack opens up for it. May hit the current score over the next few days as it shouldve dried enough.
A familiar event happening today. SWEET score popping up changed my current hoarding plans. Customer of mine was having a tree taken down which I knew about. Nice black birch maybe a face cords worth of wood. Turns out they took a few more trees down too...Goldilocks sized beech. 3-4 truck fulls is my firewood educated guess. Staged next to the driveway so I can buck and load easily. A mile from storage to boot. Guessing black birch are better than cottonwood and elm?
