NOS never run, still has the caps on fuel and exhaust. Was inside on a pallet rack then put out in the weather. Don't know if it's stuck, full of water or???? I gave $200 for it. I'm a sucker for brushed 4 pole 1800 rpm gennys.
If water didn't get in through unfinished connections somehow, I bet it's fine. For years we had those Onans on top of our fire engines and ladder trucks - the newer trucks have hydraulically-driven generators now. Some had a minimal cover over them but many were exposed just like yours is. They were out all the time in all kinds of weather, and held up well. Nice find, good luck!
All of the electric boxes are quite open around the bottom so fingers crossed. Years ago around here they were the main one on top of service trucks that didn't have a welder/generator. Honestly I'm surprised that the welders stand up to our salty Wisconsin winters.
The good.... No mice, no water, no electronics and not stuck. Definitely factory sealed, a sob to get the oil cap off. The bad.......A brush holder assembly with 16 brushes to remove and clean. More connections than I can count to clean, spade connectors!! I don't even think I can megger it until they are cleaned. I can't even think about touching it now.

I can't do that.....I would need therapy if it went to chit because of being too quick. Getting difficult to find brush type generators anymore without spending serious money. I'm inquiring on another one, used and running nice. I need help haha. You should see what I did to two radial arm saws I bought.
That's awesome. Is it possible to take something like this and add some sort of inverter or sine wave stabilization to use it as a house generator?
Just use it as is, nothing else is required. They look pretty clean on a scope. Another nice thing is they are underrated so you can use the full rated output. The exiter cranks the engine so it has no separate starter motor and it is easy to control remotely. If it is running and you hit start again nothing is damaged.
oops the screws fell out!! So even though both saws were basically unused they had surface rust, a crappy OEM paint job, dry rotted wiring, crusty grease etc. Stripped them down and put one on a pallet for either parts or later if I get more space..... A little blasting, paint, some freaking expensive bearings and it's about ready to reassemble.
