A buddy asked me to help him out with some smaller tree work at his place last weekend. We ended up taking down some small-ish (10"-12" DBH) birch, ash, and maple. Also managed to get a decent bit of hornbeam, which is a new addition to the woodpile for me.

It was a fragrant evening splitting that birch! Two beers later I had it stacked.

I'll be heading back this weekend to pick up the remainder. Hope y'all are having a great summer so far. Keep your chains sharp and your beers cold. PXL_20260614_171432101c.jpg

Some easy pickings. No big back breaking logs there.

I catch myself sniffing black birch when I'm splitting it! Sassafras & white oak my other favs.

A wood seldom mentioned on FHC. Ive only cut one hornbeam sapling over the years and cant say I've seen one that size. Bucket list scrounge for me.

It's great wood but doesn't get very big generally. We have a few small scrub ones on our property. I cut one now and then. nice wood

Shame that stuff doesn’t grow bigger. Harder than woodpecker lips
