Any idea the year/era it was made? Thinking back I'm pretty sure my late uncle had the same saw. I recall him using it in the early/mid 1980's. Same uncle who gave me my first Stihl (028) in 1985.
Once I get it I’d love to find out the exact year myself. But I believe that it’s probably from the 80s anyway. I’ve seen enough people tinkering with them on here to know that they’re a totally different animal than the Poulans of today.
Does that saw have a chain break? If it does, wouldn't it be a later 1980's saw? The first saw I bought back in the early 80's was a Homelite and it did not have a chain break.
Not yet. I picked it up on my way to work and there was no fuel in it. The guy told me he bought it used years ago and never started it. I'm thinking a carburetor cleaning and a fuel line might do the trick. I'll check it for spark in the morning too. For $20 I wasn't too concerned.
My first saw was a rinky dink circa 1980 top handle Homelite and didnt have a brake either. I was gifted my first Stihl in 1985. One of my first times cutting with it the chain wouldn't spin even though the saw was running. Went back to my uncle frustrated as to what was wrong with it. He starts the saw, releases the brakes and the chain moved. I felt like an idiot! Turns out when the saw fell off the trailer behind his tractor it engaged the brake, unbeknownst to me!
I remember the commercials from when we lived in LA and the announcer would say Poolan Ed, poolan! Since my name is Ed it stuck with me
