Maybe Dave or Tom could help with a picture? I believe if you look at the FX651V starter and compare it to the FS651V starter it will be clear as mud.
One has a solenoid on its back and the other is a straight round motor

It's supposed to be a premium upgrade in the engine package I purchased.
It's more of a why do you promote it to me, sell it to me and then switcheroo me scenario.

A lot comes down to the quality of the starter. They both could be chit I dunno.
Thank you for posting the pictures.

Thanks! I definitely understand now. Much better than the contraption I had going in my head. Lol.

EDIT: I have one of the latter on my dirt bike. Plus it doesn't look much different than an old Ford starter. Obviously the solenoid is remote mounted.

Yup, don't recall seeing a solenoid shift starter on any bike or ATV...although...I think that maybe the old BMW R bikes did?
Most bikes have chain or gear drives between starter/engine, with some sort of overrunning clutch to "disengage" after running.

Yeah I misspoke. The one on my bike is an electric motor with a fixed gear. It has a separate bendix and crown wheel between the starter and flywheel.

I see that HD starter still has a Bendix.

Screwloose I always thought a solenoid was a heavy duty relay. So I'm not sure id want an "overstressed relay" actuating a starter motor.

The old Ford starter actually used a section of one of the poles as a solenoid.

I'm just saying the relay is not something that they should be proud of.

You're a stickler for advertising matching actuality.

The dealer is just the vessel, be nice to them, it's marketing/ procurement/ engineering and maybe even accounting. Gotta go after the manufacturer, the death star/ mother ship. The engine comes from yet another manufacturer. So it will get a bit more complicated.

Be persistent. You paid for higher quality and got the industry norm.

Being that I'm in the Supply Chain side of manufacturing, I'll tell you that you need to realize all the layers to this onion.

I know it has nothing to do with the dealer. In fact I only asked the dealer for some contact info so I could get some answers on my own.

Going to look at a used zero turn mower tonight on FB marketplace. Wish me luck. Guy is on the ball, replies to my questions. He marked it as pending already.

    Good luck big T! :handshake:
I've seen a couple nice looking zero turns here lately that needed a bit of repair work, but were really cheap too!

Got it. Kubota zero turn with the 3100 transaxles. Only 360 hours. PXL_20260409_225243327.jpg

    PXL_20260410_002338782.jpg

I got a great deal on it too.

Btw excellent advice to have it low RPM to learn on.

The grass is greening up here quickly and I needed a mower soon. My old ariens gt deck was making some weird noises at the end of the season last year.

So the old ariens is 48" and would take me about 3 hrs to more mow my lawn. This 'bota is a 48" as well, so I'll have a direct comparison as to how much time it'll save me. Once I get piloting this thing down at least. I got it off the trailer and around the yard a little to show my wife, then in the garage with no issues. I did crank up the throttle in the big part of my yard to see how fast it can go Supposedly it will do 8mph with the zt-3100 transaxles.

Kohler 21 HP confident v twin which apparently is the successor to the command pro with a cyclonic air filter and some other improvements.

She needs a bath, and will be even nicer looking once washed, but it's definitely not been abused at all. It will need an oil change as the engine oil was changed last February, but it has a new interstate battery in it.
