I have 2 logs in this cherry load I brought home that look different and are much heavier, anyone know what they are. Some type of maple? Im seperating woods by seasoning time so just trying to get an idea.
It’s a maple with cross breed here IDK for sure but suspect sugar that’s 2 Vermonters sugar maple state tree I would run with it here 2 years seasoned good to go
Thats what I was hoping to hear. I've cut red and silver maple before but never sugar. Ill mix it with the black locust and red oak for 2 year supply. I've been seperating white oak for 3 years out, and ash, cherry, poplar and silver maple for next year's mix.
Sugar is as much better than red. As red is to silver or swamp maples meaning a low BTU hard wood. The proof is in the hardness of wood, sugar maple is aka rock maple
Has a sugar maple look to it. Post more pics when you split it to confirm. Highest btu's of all the maples. It will dry in a year. Ill take it over oak any day.
Also a rack i made out of scrap lumber and a free pallet. According to the calculator on here its .27 of a cord if I stack 2 rows. Still buying IBC totes here and there when I can afford to.
I like it! Simple and effective. Prop it up on some blocks or bricks and it'll last longer. How long do you cut your wood?
On the half cords racks I made I went 36" wide so 4" gap in the middle. Leaves enough room for the critters to get in! Only have found mice and snakes in there. Although the shed may have had a squirrel or opossum in it at one time.
Rain let up for a little bit today so I filled the new rack i built with sugar maple, cherry, oak and black locust. Will be used or sold in the 2027-28 season. Also split up some of the cleanest ash ive ever worked with, and cottonwood for next season. The ibc tote behind the new rack is more 27-28 wood, mix of black locust, oak, and cherry.
