Plot twist. What do you do 30 miles from home when you find chestnut oak and your bed is full of cottonwood? I don’t know about any of you, but I swap it out

Come to think of it I might've done the same even though I'm not an oak fan as everyone knows. I've only had CO twice and loved splitting and sniffing it. My favorite among all the oaks.

Besides if that's near your work you can grab it next time.

100% agree. White and/or chestnut oak is my all around favorite. Under normal circumstances white oak is rare for me, and chestnut oak even more so, so when the opportunity comes I have to seize it.

I think I've only had 3 scores of it over the years myself, and never had more than 1/3 cord on hand at any given time. I'm hoping the rest of the wood stays put for a couple weeks anyway. But if not, I won't lose any sleep. Plenty of wood in the stacks, and plenty rounds/quarters at home that still need to be processed.

LOL! Definitely a new term! I can’t recall anyone doing this in the past.

Edit: Can you imagine the property owner coming back….and seeing different wood there? HA!

That was definitely a great swap. Too bad you didn't have a saw and could have gotten that sweet butt log on top of the hill. Great score

When I went by on Friday the butt log was still there but everything else was gone. I have a feeling that the butt log will be gone too by tomorrow, but I’ll take my 372XP with me just in case.

Is Aspundh removing the logs right away? Some other contracted tree services will take it right away, much to my disdain

Thats FAST if its Asplundh. I've spoken directly with a boom truck driver. IIRC they only have four said trucks for either CT or NE. Wood can sit for days or many months before it disappears.

The last time it was some fresh cut cherry and I was just finishing up and he shows up. Turns out he was taking them to a mill and make a few bucks for himself. Learned a lot talking to him that day. Always nice to have the inside scoop.

That’s what they’re doing around my area. Coming back for the nice logs quickly and leaving everything else behind,,,,possibly forever. Talked to the boom operator myself. They bring the nice stuff to some guy in Glastonbury.

Ewww I just got a nice score for Tuesday. Looks like some hickory logs, sugar maple and cherry. Stay tuned. Had my clandestine phone with me so no pics today.

Sounds like some good stuff. Wanna see real pics when you grab it. Hopefully the heavy rain doesn't mud it up too bad. Has your wood yard dried out much?
