Looks pretty decent. Was that with a CBN wheel or a regular stone wheel?

Well I got the jig I thought it would be weeks, got it in 6-days lol…

Anyway did a 20” chain for the 362 yesterday and WOW cut like a dream!!!

The pic I just posted is a 28” chain for my ms 461 (I love that saw lol), anyway I can’t wait to let he eat….I doubt it will be today been cutting and splitting past dark all week need a rest day lol….

There is a lot of room for a more aggressive/less aggressive cutters I’m just getting a baseline and can always tweak it from there….ive always wanted a way to do square other than file and this is the ticket!!

I will say if this is the very first geo set someone buys and they don’t have experience with the grinder it will be a lot to take in at first….people that’s been doing chains on the grinders for awhile will be more prepared, naturally…

CBN…I love them I never liked the stone wheels the constant reshaping, and dust drove me nuts, I like the constant shape…I think people don’t like them cause they try to take to much meat off rather than “just tap tap tapping it in lmao”….

I have never used a regular square grinder so can’t comment on them, but I can do a chain like this as fast or faster than round and I made the mistake of sharpening the public’s chains when I was younger and could use the extra money (terrible idea but I did chains at night for extra money, would get some chitttyyy chains look like people root-tilled with them lmao), so I have done probably hundreds at a minimum….

I think the only advantage to stone wheels in this application is you can play with the side plate angle. Last week I sharpened a couple chains with a steeper angle dressed on the wheel, to give the side plate more forward lean. I'll see how they do at some point here. But yeah breathing the dust sucks, the grit everywhere sucks (especially in the groove on this jig) You're right too, quick taps rather than plunging into a cutter is the way to go. It's tedious but better than overheating a cutter, and since you have to physically hold the chain with this jig, you don't want to be holding a smoldering hot chain in place anyway.

So who is the preferred choice for purchasing CBN grinding wheels? Been meaning to get them to try out and figure this is as good a time as any!

Yes sir and yes being able to play with those angles on the stone wheels is good…and I’m not against the stone wheels I still use them (mainly for rakers)…

How do you have your grinder set up? I got mine on 90° head till 10° on the left and right cutters than my bottom is it like and I have the tilt on just zero on the vice…

The guy that makes him said he likes his bottom slide on about five and I’ve just left mine here and I’ll play with it further after using the chains more…I will say that chain cut great yesterday and I had to convert it to square from round….i cut some maple, hackberry then some oak….had the bar almost buried in some oak logs and didn’t have to apply any pressure but the saws wieght itself…

My head tilt is at 90 degrees too, 12 degrees seems to be the magic number for my top plate angle, and also zero on the vise here.

I’m pretty sure I got it on eBay, but ya it’s been good to me I got a wheel for 3/8 and .325 at the same time….seems more people like them than not but I do know a few guys that just don’t care for them….once I got them that’s all I have used and that’s been about 19-years ago…I also don’t sharpen any chains now except mine, wife’s dad and maybe a buddy that I take pity on lmao…

Edit 9-10 years ago not 19 lol
