Visiting The Sequoia National Park and looking at some amazing trees and nature. The hoarder in me still couldn’t help but wonder how much firewood is here And then not 30’away was a reminder that people generally suck. . Dirty diaper, plastic cup, straws and general trash
That beast will probably break the calculator. Firewood & Cord Calcuations Those are cool trees, think the same every time I get to see them. Keep having a great vacation. Owl
Instead of using "diameter breast height", it would have to be "cord breast height" when taking measurements. It was over 20 years ago that we took a vacation out to see them.
I don't have any idea how many cord is in there but it would certainly be enough for a few years of firewood. On the other hand, how would you cut and split that wood?
Why we’d call you in for that. You’re not getting off that easy Wrap a roll of chain around the tree backwards, teeth in, and modify a saw to drive it, no bar necessary?
If that trunk is 20' in diameter and my math is right there will be 3.9 cord of wood for every lineal foot.
The tree in my second picture is The General Sherman tree. It is the largest tree in the world by volume so they list the volume measurement of the trunk portion at 52,508cuft. That is just over 410 cords in the trunk! Truly amazing!
Amazing the size of those trees. I've only seen them from pictures and I'm sure they are something to see in person. Cant imagine the volume of firewood, but I like the way you think!
I remember this commercial when I was a little kid in the early 1970's. It should be aired all the time.
Wow, what an awesome plant! And sight! I wonder how thick the bark is on those? I know some of those giant trees can have thick bark...that could/would further reduce any potential firewood production. Can you imagine it though...a lifetime of firewood, even for us full time burners, all from ONE tree!
