Have you tried trimming the edges of the choke and throttle blades along with thinning the shafts / screw streamlining?

I changed out the screws on my 288 clone carb to brass so I could peen them easier than steel screws (used loc-tite also). Then taped over the hi nozzle, low speed holes in the venturi, and any other open holes in the carb to keep shavings out. Then I went after it with the carbide burrs to get a smoother flow at WOT. I didn't do any b-4 / after timed cuts on just this mod, but I can't imagine it didn't help. There were LOTs of other mods to this saw. Flow, flow, and flow seem to be the major theme to performance.

 

I know that's an upgrade some do. I haven't tried it yet myself.

 

It wasn't hard to do, but it was time consuming. I used that saw as a learning experience, along with all the others I've worked on. I'm still a rookie at building saws but it's fun learning new stuff.

 

Im far from an expert lol. Ive done 13 or 14 saws now. All my own but one I did for a buddy.

The saw is an absolute gas hog now lol. Like nothing I've ever seen in a saw. I can probably get 3-4 tanks of gas to one oil tank refill now. I guess my hackery went to far. It will make a great tractor saw for the occasional quick cut.

Yep, it will eat more gas since porting and bigger carb.
I was shocked how much the XS029 ate with the 039 jug on it...but it sure cut good.

I think its a great candidate to try RC car Nitro fuel in. Its over carbed so theres plenty of room to adjust for the extra fuel needed.

I just went and counted jet turns...1/8 out from closed on the H and 5/8 out from closed on the L. Yeah, it will probably flow nitro fuel.

 

This isn't normal ported saw gas hoggery. All my others still run out about the same time as the fuel. Usually the fuel a bit before the oil. Not this little dude. Lol. I crossed a line somewhere and made it a small cc toy vs a usable wood cutting tool. But,I'm 100% good with it. I went into this with the goal of getting the maximum power, I know how to get, without having a custom expansion chamber made or custom machine work to tighten the squish and rebore the bearing pockets.
