I was going through withdrawals up here in Northern New York! o_O What the heck happened? Did Backwoods Savage split firewood horizontally? I told him he would come around eventually!:p

I had so many scary thoughts and was wondering if we would ever have FHC again.

I finished splitting the box elder that I cut down at Son #2's house last fall. Friday after work and yesterday. Some of the larger rounds were so wet that I could see moisture getting pressed out of it as the splitter was going in. Friday my wife helped stack, reloading a rack that I emptied this winter and a pallet space that also was emptied over the winter. Yesterday I split alone, most huge rounds, splitting vertically and just stacking where I could reach from my milk crate. After I finish my morning coffee I will go out and work on stacking that pile on the pallet behind it. No hurry through as it is about 30 out and I'm sitting by my fireplace insert.

The box elder will feel like balsa wood when it dries out. Doesn't smell too good either.

I already have some that is 2 years dried and it burns ok. There is an old saying, wood is wood and all wood burns. So since the price was right and the tree had to come down, no sense in hauling it to the dump. :)

I do the same. I've cleaned a lot of fencerows over the years and even cut up the honeysuckle.

It all burns but with that said, Cottonwood is a lot of work for what you get. LOL
