Here is a link to the video iCloud Photo Sharing Before doing this I removed the door, the faceplate, the baffle plate and fire bricks that set above it and the damper/bypass plate. Fall 23 I poked a hole through the plastic for the sooteater rod, fall 24 I just ran it under the bottom edge as you see in the video. I think either way works when using the HEPA filter vac. Without the Vac I would go through a small hole. I am a serious do it yourself person. I nearly never pay anyone do to anything for the house or vehicles. Sometimes even get in over my head but this is fairly easy.

Looks like you are burning a couch, a chair, and most of your kitchen in there. Interesting perspective in the photo.

He did get into some of his oak. I split a piece and brought it home, let it in the basement for 2 hours.

I’d say 70/20 mix of ash and cherry has been the norm though, little walnut in there too.

Was that after resplitting so you measured on a freshly exposed surface to get the internal moisture content?

That’s the only way to get a true reading. :yes:My mm says to let the piece reach room temp, hence the 2 hour time frame.

Assuming MM measures change in resistance so Temperature wood matter; good pun there.
Also fresh split face due to drying process.
In short the man’s doing it right

and where did you get that information from? Because the product I recommended specifically states it is safe for cat stoves or are we just spouting off myths?

Catalytic Combustors: Put in bypass mode before treatment and for 1 hr. afterwards

Also, I would rather trust the stove mfg or the cat mfg rather than the mfg of that stuff whose sole interest is to sell you that stuff.

They may be right, but I'd run it by the cat mfg of your cat before I would put it in my stove.

(Also, if you have a working cat and dry enough wood, how would you need anti creosote stuff...?)

This year, I have transitioned to burning very hot fires (as in nearly full stat) in my Blaze King. This is for two reasons, first, we've had some darn cold weather, and second, on "warmer" days, I burn smaller, hot fires. My stove interior and pipe are ridiculously clean, best I have ever seen them. I don't feel I'm burning any more wood than I would be by packing it full and turning it down.

Them telling you to "bypass" the cat during treatment tells us that their product harms catalytic combustors. Further, the stove designs I've seen with a bypass do not fully bypass the smoke around the cat but just provide an extra path in addition to the cat still being exposed to smoke.

Correct! Never use the logs in our stoves. They will result in over plating (yes even with bypass open). We have the lab, we have the engineers and the stoves have been tested to show this is the case.
