2.5 cords Oct. til end Jan. We will probably burn 3.5 for the burn season which is a lot for us but there have been several very cold stretches! That leaves me with about 7 cords of seasoned wood left. I have also just processed 1.75 cords of green Doug Fir and am looking for more! Green Doug Fir
almost a cord of eastern white pine about half a cord of red maple. more Home Heating Oil than in the past.
House is ~10 Years old. Spray foamed. Native timber sawn on a Woodmizer. I heat a 1000²' uninsulated basement W 8" concrete walls And that gobbles the heat. I dont mind, I have unlimited wood on 40 acres. I suppose I could cut the heat to the basement if I needed to. Forgot to add, A Yukon Eagle.
1.25 cords ran through a TSC Chinese U.S stove's , sole source of heat, 1600sq ft home in central Va.
We only heat with wood and have "consumed" none, a riddle. No snow on the ground. So far, only had one 3 1/2" snow back in December which melted one week later. We are in a "drought" with storms missing us both North and South. The days in the upper 20's or 30's are frequent enough so far to produce an average of 1,000 pounds of green wood, cut, hauled, split, and stacked each week. Doing all this work on the cooler days is great compared to 80+ deg F and humid and being outside more is a big plus. This winter is mostly mild and so we are approaching 3 cords loaded into the furnace which we will reach during the coming cold spell. But no, we have not "consumed" any firewood... The stacks are FULL!!!
I keep my wood in piles, but we held off firing up later this year so I know wood usage is way down I'm gonna guess between 2.5 and 3 cord.
This is the time of year I am cutting for 4 heating seasons from now. I like to get it done in February if I can. Solid ground and warmer sunny afternoons. Absolutely hate to sweat and be uncomfortable when I am working it.
I stack approximately 4.25 at the front of the house and that will be gone by the end of the month. College baseball opening day is Friday.
yep, I'm also a winter cutter as well. I'd rather be out cutting in -5° (which I was a few weeks ago) than in 55°. I think I'm working on somewhere around my 2042 wood supply.
2042!! I think it's time to admit you have a bit of a problem. Obsessive compulsive disorder. It's OK we all understand here.
It's been a strange year. Started burning in late November. December was a wet month but not cold. January absolutely no rain at all but got colder. February has rained non stop and is colder than January. We burned 1 cord so far.
5-5.5 face cords so far been burning almost 24/7 since December but started having fires in October or November. The furnace has only kicked on a few times. Seems right on schedule compared to last year.
LOL Problem? I find the double standard amusing. A guy cuts wood off and on for a few months during the winter just to keep active getting some exercise doing something he enjoys and so happens to accumulate ~15+ years worth of heat for his house is told he has a problem on a forum that is titled Firewood Hoarders Club. Guys who accumulate more monetary wealth than they can realistically spend in 20 lifetimes (a lot of times by screwing over others) are looked up to. I find that double standard a problem. I've never heard of anyone complaining of having too much $$$$$, and firewood is nothing but a different form of $$$ to me. Whether I sell it or use it to replace LP, it's a commodity worth $$$$. It's in full view of the world to see. If everyone's monetary wealth was visible to you, would you single out those who -you- feel have too much money and tell them they have OCD?
