Correct, thermocell doesn't work for ticks, at least in my experience. Flying insects, yes. One morning this spring, sat down against the tree....hadn't had much issue with mosquitoes so hadn't thought much about it. A minute later they were all around me. Luckily turkey was still in the tree, so I grabbed the thermocell and fired it up. You don't even really know when it happens, but within a few minutes you'll suddenly realize the little bastages aren't there anymore....

I have the holster for mine, and it stays clipped on a strap loop of my vest. If you could figure out a way to make the little heating element work with electricity instead of the fuel canisters, I don't see why it wouldn't activate the pad....

Would it matter what the heat comes from? There is no flame that touches the pad.

It would no doubt depend on how much heat. Too little probably not work. Too much and poof, would maybe work but only for minutes. One could test to see how hot the metal gets and go from there.

I have been using these for years. They really do the trick. I hate being bitten by bugs as the bites make me itch for a long while.

I've used a small one for years while hunting during the early part of the season when the mosquitoes are still out. Wouldn't be without one. I've used a larger one for the deck and it has worked better than those citronella candles and tiki torches (IMO).

Yes they work. We have the unit that can strap on your arm or leg. Had it on while deer hunting, fuel ran out, skeeters almost pulled me from the stand, had spare cell in holster, relit, all calm in a few minutes

Agreed. They work great. Refills can be pricy, but worth it.

I'll have both of mine fired up tomorrow afternoon, around a campfire.

Just got back from a yearly camping/concert weekend. The place that we stay at is on the side of a lake the camping area is basically part of a swamp they filled in. The mosquitoes are usually terrible. The thermacell made it much more enjoyable! Well worth the price of admission!

Backwoods Savage introduced them to me at a GTG at Well Seasoned's, a number of years ago.

I have several thermocell units that I keep in my personal truck, work truck, turkey hunting gear, a couple at the cottage and more at home. Really only work for mosquitos but they do work very well. You really don't know how well it's working until you turn it off. A little pricy but I don't like or use bug spray.

Yup, didn’t have it on this morning breaking down camp and got lit up.! That’s what convinced me it was working when it was on!

That's right, a few years ago I was spring turkey hunting in a swamp and the Tom got behind me. After he moved off a bit I jumped to another tree about 30' away and facing the opposite direction. Unfortunately I forgot my thermocell at the first tree. It didn't matter if the Tom was coming back or not. Within 2-3 minutes and the mosquitos were swarming all over and biting me:hair:. I quickly had to make my way back to my original tree and thermocell.

I place one near (just up wind) of where my wife and my lawn chairs are at the camp fire every evening at the cottage. Really only need it on for the witching hour or two at dusk.

They have a model that matches with a holster that can be clipped to your belt.

All of mine are those portable units and almost all with holsters. Most are the older models with the rotating control like above and a couple newer ones with the slide switch but I don't like the newer holsters with the flip over flap.

That's the setup I have for hunting. Has never let me down.
