Went out and did some more splitting this morning. I want to say this stuff is red oak and it has a LOT of moisture in it. That’s what’s getting my gloves all wet. I need to turn the fill cap on the hydraulic tank. It’s aimed right at the engine at the moment. mom likely going to order a wedge and a log lift from rugged made and convert this to a push through machine with a log lift. I’ve already got the 6-way wedge, having the 4-way will be a major improvement. it’s taking 11-15 cycles to split some of the larger rounds at 8-10 seconds a cycle, the output leaves a lot to be desired. the splitter is doing for me what I want though. Letting me get this first 11-12 cord of ash and cherry split and sellable in bundles and a roadside stand. Should let me fund a more capable splitter. ETA- the logs that are single layers next to the trailer are frozen to the ground in ice. I’ll let Mother Nature release them and then get them split.
I filled mine Friday when I got it home from the store. It wouldn’t surprise me to know I over filled it but still. I need to rotate it so it’s not going to vent oil towards a hot engine.
High output oiler and Big Bore cylinder for the G660. came in just in time for my going back out for another 3 week. not like I don’t have more than one project that all need to be done in that time period. this will have to be cleaned up and polished a bit. There’s some pretty decent joint lines and flashing I want to clean up. flashing on the piston windows Joint line on the intake to remove.
Here’s the dirt bucket and the snow bucket nested together. this is why I got it for loading and cleaning up around the woodyard. Much much more capacity for all that “light materials” vs dirt.
Can’t forget the safety gear… wow is this comfortable…. got some hi-vis colors so someone in the excavator can see me.
Incorrigible group I tell you… 1200 miles from home and I’m shopping for firewood stuff because it’s easier than driving 70 miles at home…
Ok, that was a good investment for $25. I have a country pro which is a runnings store splitter instead of the county line which is Tractor supply. Both are YTL international splitters. Bought it mainly for smaller wood instead of using a straight wedge. Split three rounds of cherry for the weekend to cook on. All it took was 5 cycles each round to get some nice cooking splits out of it. It would have been 11-14 cycles with a single wedge.
Decided to bag the wood as much to see how much it would be. As well as keep from just falling all over and make a mess. Got some 1 Cu Ft bags. Using the 10 gal trash bin trick for the short term.
you may want to consider the 0.75 Cu Ft bags. These are pretty big. Especially if the idea is for selling to people who want smaller wood. 1.0 CF 21x25 Mesh Bag - RED
Feed, birdseed, and cat litter bags work great for it. When splitting BL ill have an open bag next to the splitter and toss shards in as im working!
While splitting tonight, decided I want to get a gauge installed and see what I can do about adjusting the pressure up to around 2700-2800 psi. the pump and everything is rated to 3000 psi. I may get the larger pump and a 15 hp / 420 cc predator engine too instead. my plan is to make a bucking table like this… for this splitter and then use it in a vertical position at waist height to break down/ quarter large rounds I want to make a bucking table to use like this. On one side I’ll have the country pro setup to quarter big rounds like an Easton made axis. then those smaller pieces will be pushed onward to a rugged made 728 splitter that drops onto a conveyor to load the dump trailer.
How large? 420cc will pull a low to mid 20s gpm pump ...but at that point the fittings and line size are the restriction...it'll make lots of heat!
I’d be basically building it from scratch with the beam probably being the only thing original. the fittings on the cylinder are only 1/2”. (Since the hoses are metric, probably 13mm). probably a rabbit hole that would turn into Alice’s wonderland
