    those doors look awesome!
We have 2 garage overheads (one which doesnt move/won't open) that I just hate. And forget about spending big bucks on replacements! Sliding doors is a posible fix.
The ability to make the doors custom fit, and adjustable, is a turn-on of sorts.
I spray painted the glass white to reduce visibility from the outside on the current doors. Cutting custom holes and adding glass will let a lot of light in here.

Sirbuildalot, I take it there is no way to unlock/open from the exterior? (I'll deal with that over spending a grand or better on overheads....).

After releasing the video I wrapped the casings in brown aluminum trim coil and installed weather-stripping. I also installed safety chains to keep them from being blown open or opened by others. Otherwise they could be slid open from the outside as long as I don't connect the chains. I do plan to install a man door at some point.

All told I think the 3 overhead doors would have been minimum 4 grand installed, maybe closer to 5. Like everything prices for them are sky high. That's two 8x10's and a 7'x8'

I have less than a quarter that in these sliding doors. That includes lumber, paint, roller track, rollers, 5x5x3/8" angle iron supports, weather-stripping, screws, nails, etc.

I have some bits of metal kicking around, finding a track would be next on the agenda. What lumber was that...other than the osb?
Did you consider hanging the doors on the outside?

The doors were just OSB and KD 2x4's. I debated outside vs inside, but I had concerns about snow and rain getting in the track and possibly causing corrosion issues. I could have made a cover out of aluminum that covered it, but putting it on the inside seemed an easier solution.

Well, D-day (door day) came a week ago when an acquaintance reshaped the bottom panel. I remembered this thread and figured I should post our results.
I picked up a couple dozen 1x6x8 PT decking and some hinges, a couple deadbolts and a bunch of lag screws.
One door is wider than the other, to allow toys out without opening both. They swing out, leaving interior space to be used. Doors went on last week, finished securing them today.

A week ago with metal attached to a wire and secured inside..

Put the bar inside today. The black handles are from the old door, brushed and painted.

The bar hangs on a peg so it doesn't get lost.
I've still got to add another deadbolt to the left door top.
I also will add eye bolts and rope or something so the doors don't swing all the way open and wrap around the garage. A piece of rebar with a pointy end might work in the pavement.

    I forgot to add costs:
    PT decking $250 ish
Hinges and deadbolts and lag screws $110
Time: 6 or 8 hours for the build, another 3 or 4 for the interior hardware. I was designing as I went.
Still not sure what I want to do for windows....maybe portlights or the like.
At some point I'm going to build an awning or cantilevered roof over the top of the doors, the width of the building, extending out a good couple of feet. That will give me a place to stand outside in foul weather, and shelter the door tops from the elements.

But still beats the cost of an overhead door.

Some updates on the pallet building. Originally I was going to use red vinyl siding. Since I now have a sawmill, I decided to do 1” Pine Board and Batten instead. Once the boards are dry, they'll be painted barn red and all the doors are getting painted dark brown. Freeze boards will get wrapped in brown aluminum.

Thanks Jeff. I should have finished it a long time ago. I have too many open projects going on.

Looks great...hopefully you don't have the same issues my inlaws had with the pine siding they did on their house...the woodpeckers and wood boring bees are tearing the place apart!

Those bees are destructive! Folks had a shed built with rough sawn hemlock they made Swiss cheese out of it in short order!they have had luck with this method.

for some reason the link to YouTube won’t attach…

I have some boring into my wood shed...I like going out right before dark when they are coming back to their holes...give 'em a quick snort of brake cleaner in their hole after they are in there buzzing around, all done! It kills them instantly...like you can actually shoot them out of the air...if you make good contact with them the just fall out of the sky and quit moving in about 5 seconds.

I did have a woodpecker attack the old siding. He disappeared...

There's about 9 square of siding on the building. Just the siding would be about 3k. Add the J-trim, corners, starter strip, soffits, nails, etc, you're talking closer to 4k I'd guess.

Got's to save where's I can man

Good to know...built one last year....the stuff we used for our first on 15 years ago (aqua net hair spray) is mostly water, and useless now. I haven't found something good yet....wd40 doesn't work either!
