I've seen a couple vids lately of guys restoring NLA carb parts with MA. Used for small amounts of time and with caution. I've tried it to remove piston transfer on saw cylinders and it works. It'll eat aluminum pretty quick so you have to be careful.
Update on the Toro. We brought the unit back to the flatlands for the winter so I could tinker with it. It was surging and I found out it was getting too much fuel. I spent quite a bit of time trying to bend the tab on the float to hopefully cure the issue. No dice. With the bowl off the carb, I was either getting fuel dripping with the float level or no fuel at all; I could not find the sweet spot. Slept on it and pulled the needle valve assembly, blasted things out with carb cleaner and that solved that. Picked up a fuel filter and used some smaller ID fuel line (vs the 1/4” I was using). Got it fired up and it still surged, unless I had the choke on. Thought I was running lean. But it eventually settled out and ran great. So fingers crossed. I then went to shut the unit off, and the on/off switch decided to stop working. LOL! More tinkering ahead…
Here’s a pic of the Toro. This thing cleaned up amazingly well with a little Quick Detailer and some 0000 steel wool. The chrome really pops! Again, they don’t make them like they used to. I’m having a bit of an issue with the on/off switch. It started fine today, but I really had to push the switch to turn it off. A few weeks back, it would not start. I pulled the panel off, took the wires off the on/off switch, reattached, got spark and she fired up. So something is a little wonky with the switch or the connections to said switch.
