    Hello,

I was looking to see if anybody could give their input on the ideal steel such as Pros and Cons?

After extensive research, IS was my first choice. Great stove along with CS. Shipping to Ca was $800 which killed the deal. I ended up with a Blaze King delivered and installed on my hearth for the same price.

My mother and sister both have one. Nice stoves. I will say that my mother has abused hers too much. In her 80’s it was hard to teach her the subtle differences in function compared to her old Shenandoah. The impatient type with the stove in the basement. She left it running wide open and walked away during fire up too many times. Has a warp around the bypass door now. About 6-7 years old now.
She has it down now but it was scary for awhile there.
My cousin has one a year older than hers and it still looks brand new inside and out. I think you abuse any modern stove and you’ll have issues.

Thanks for info. I’m use to the running a stove with a cat but I’ve never had a hybrid stove. I’m sure it’s going to take some time to get use to it. My one worry is that I’ve always heard that the steel stoves warp.

There has been numerous discussions about that stove and I'll give a link.

I will say I was fortunate to be with Woodstock when they one the woodstove challenge in Washington DC as the cleanest burning woodstove. This was a competition sponsored by Popular Mechanics. This was the second hybrid stove they had built and it has proved to be a big winner with many very happy customers. This stove is very easy to control and it is a big stove. I know a few of the folks who have one installed and they are very happy with it.

I will say when I bought my stove from Woodstock (A Fireview. I 2007.) I was a bit reluctant but that 6 month guarantee was a big factor in purchasing but we never considered sending ours back. I do know they occasionally have a stove returned but most times the customer has bought a smaller stove then replaces it with a larger stove.

TurboDiesel has had one for a long time and might even help with your questions.

Barcroftb also installed an Ideal Steel last fall.

And other types of stoves crack...if abused, that's the key, to learn proper operation of your stove. Any quality stove (like the WS IS) will last a long time like that. And if not, they (WS) are well known for standing behind their products...even beyond warranty period sometimes.
