Nice work that you and 99 did yooperdave ! I'm usually of the mindset that if it ain't broke, don't fix it, but you probably did the right thing by getting to that pressure tank now, as to waiting until it went. Being out of water for a day or so, with temporary overnight is much better than an emergency service bill and still being out of water for a week or so until they can find parts and/or time.
Or have to thaw the ground enough to dig it up! Having a hard time wrapping my head around why the tank (that commonly fails) would be buried outside!
Caffeine! Back to the real job later this morning. But first I have to pull both the batteries out of the 300B. Again. No start! Took them both out yesterday and tried charging them. Back in they went, nothing. Dates on them from early 2017. Hoping that is all it is.
It is actually an approved by the state type of system. For this application, I understand completely just why it was done that way. When the guy bought the land, he had the well drilled, built a garage, and had a trailer that was used for quite a few years. It was hooked up to electric, which explains why you can see some discarded wiring sticking out of the ground near the well, septic, and of course water from the well. The house was built 12 years ago and obviously, he elected to leave the working pressure tank set up just the way it was. Buried. The first time I viewed the house, I noticed the absence of the pressure tank in the basement. The owner said that there had never been any issues what-so-ever with it. I just know that "Murphy" was planning an unannounced visit some time in the future..........
Ha! I thought about it some more and before I pulled the batteries I tried the old fashion way to see if there was any spark. Sure enough, plenty. So I knew batteries were okay. Took the side steel panel off next to the key switch thinking maybe bad switch or selenoid. Started moving some wires around and lightly pushing and pulling on things hoping for a short or bad connection. And the dash lights come on! Yea! Pulled the wiring connector off the back of the key switch. Ugh. Grungy mess. Took a wire brush to all the metal tabs and carefully cleaned them up. Pushed the connector back on tight and there we go. Each time I turn the key on now the dash lights come on. It started right up. So in the meantime I have charged the batteries, cleaned all post on both. Cleaned inside of lead connectors. Cleaned ground connectors. And now cleaned key switch connectors. It looks as though I should eventually replace the electrical connector at back of key switch. And maybe the key switch as well. But that will require some time to label all wires, etc., etc., etc. Future project.
You folks are the BEST!! Thanks to yooperdave, eatonpcat, Horkn, Canadian border VT, and all the rest who sent birthday wishes over here. I hope you all are having a GREAT DAY, as well!!
SHOCKED!! I've had "gut feelings" before and they are somewhat accurate, though not all the time. I got some well needed sleep last night and one dream was I was driving to the bus stop and there was the big yellow bus waiting for me on the hill a couple blocks ahead. I left at my normal time today to get there which is more than 10 minutes early, sure enough, I get one block down the road where the bus stop is in view and it's there, parked! I'm amazed. Kiddo says some on the second bus were out sick, and several missing on the 3rd bus for after school orchestra practice which is why they were early. I'll pay better attention next time. This was a dream, not guy feeling.
