Nice dry day with little humidity here today. Have a lot of rounds waiting to be split and with work, hot & wet weather i really got behind. :emb: Plus ive been slowly working to finish the wood next door from my I was Very, Very Distracted at Work Today. score from two months ago.
Rounds go back to late Winter. Split mostly black locust this afternoon along with a pile of uglies and a mound of shorts/nuggets. Over a cord and a half.
Some before pics. Got quite overgrown in 3-4 months time. IMG_5384.JPG IMG_5385.JPG IMG_5386.JPG IMG_5388.JPG You can see the finished mound of dead BL splits far on the right. Forgot to take full pic of it. IMG_5390.JPG After. IMG_5387.JPG
    IMG_5391.JPG IMG_5392.JPG
Still another seven PU fulls of rounds waiting to be split there. More locust, Shag, red and sugar maple, ash and some sassafras. Liking the hydro for hot weather splitting.

The ferns are swallowing the wood pile. Chipping away is all I can do in the summer. Slow motion wood processing. From cut to stacked it seems like a month per cord.

Wow! I been away for months. You got a splitter? Now, THAT is a surprise! Did you have a thread that covered this monster surprise?

Looks like a good day's work!!
The score from a couple months ago: you have that pretty well wrapped up at this point? How many cord did that turn out to be?

Dear wife and I have been picking away as the score you helped us bring in. I'm guessing we have 16 hours in at the machine so far, and another 4-6 yet to go.

Yesterday after working 6 to 530, we split for an hour on the machine. Right there is one of the biggest benefits of hydro....wood gets split even if you're cooked from a day at work. I wouldn't have bothered swingin a maul yesterday...that would not have ended well!

Piles look good in those pics!!

im with Yawner , when did the hydro get in the mix?
I’m glad you have it as an option.
I was about to call it a day late yesterday and would have if the hydro wasn’t out siting next to a pile of red oak rounds already.
1/2 hour later it was done.
Wouldn’t have happened if it was just me and the 27X

I thought the ferns were cool. Its a nice spot. Shade helped even though it wasnt that humid.

Ive helped hydro users and in the Spring i did a firewood making job for a guy who had a hydro for me to use. Here's the thread CHOP CHOP!
After using his i was sold as i showed it no mercy when i split some gnarly sugar maple. My friend where this wood is stored and i were going halves on a splitter eventually. A good friend of his ends up buying him one and i was offered up use on it. I split four plus cords next door (MikeInMa mentioned my thread "vertical")

I was noticing more discomfort in my left shoulder after some splitting and id prefer not to get an injury to lay me up. I do some hand splitting and do miss it. With the volume of wood i have on hand it got overwhelming so hydro to the rescue. Still a lot of work though.

Everything in the yard has been cleaned up. The oak is mostly stacked (on site too) and the maple is split & mounded right next to the shed (i have to fix it first) where it will be stacked (on site as well). The two white oaks have not been touched as they are 90% in the woods. Some of the trunk wood may become mill fodder. Kinda wish i had the oak CS so it would have a Summers worth of drying time. I think it may be Fall when i get to those as other scores pending have priority.
Id say i have 4.5 cords CS so far.

Nice job buZZsaw BRAD . I was splitting this weekend off and on. With the heat and humidity it was more off. Only got 3/4 of a cord done. I was wishing for a hydro. I think one is in my future sooner than later.

Keep nibbling away and you'll get it done. Be in right state of mind is important IMO. How much left to split? Coolers days will be here before you know it

I kind of put myself in a bind. The rounds are along a turn in my driveway where I want to level out a little more and get stone spread, as well as have some stone spread up the trail to my stacks.
I'll like to have that done by mid august. With cooler weather, weekends get full with kid's activities, than it's hunting, also have a bath remodel to do.
    Almost 2 cord left.

Did more splitting couple weeks ago. Had problems loading pics so catching up. Three PU fulls of rounds hanging around since March. :emb:
Stored behind his lean to! Got a bit overgrown. IMG_5431.JPG
Left to right, red maple, black locust and shagbark hickory. Half cord each IMG_5438.JPG
Made another 5x10' rack and stacked the BL. Three racks behind it are BL too. IMG_5439.JPG Split and stacked some old sugar maple rounds for my friend too. Still five more PU fulls of rounds in front yard to split. Gotta stack first...groan! IMG_5430.JPG IMG_5432.JPG

Only a Hoardasaurus. They're harmless unless you take their firewood!

Its the back wooded area at my friends where i store wood. I hadnt been back there in a few months and was surprised when i saw what had grown.

Nice! Splitting by hand is fine for small amounts of wood, but a hydraulic splitter is definitely the way to go for large amounts, at least for those of us oldies in the over 50 crowd! o_O Rock on buZZsaw BRAD ! :dex:
