The guy ive been working for calls me early this morning saying if i dont come today its okay. The tree service shows up without letting him know and he didnt know if it would interfere with my work. Taking down some trees there. I show up and with 500i in hand. I ask for the boss who was the ground guy of the two working. I ask if he is hiring as im holding the saw while talking to him. He's looking at me like i have two heads and i finally tell him im kidding. The look on his face was priceless. I get to work doing my job but was more interested in the nine trees they are taking down as the wood is all mine. Fun to watch them work of course. Boss was a Stihl lover so i spent too much time BSing with him rather than working Right next door to my friends where i have wood stored. Ill be able to store the wood there too as the homeowner has offered it to me many times. Nine trees total. Six red maples, two white oaks and huge pin oak. Group of five red maples in front. DBH from 13 to 16" Nice tangled mess as they were limbed then sectioned down. Homeowner will clean up brush luckily. 28" DBH pin oak sectioned down. Three trees in back felled intact. Ill buck to my size. 19 & 16" DBH white oaks partly felled into the woods. 16" Red maple they tied off and i helped pull into the yard. Learner toward his gazebo. Seeing the 500i sitting in the bed all day was driving me nuts. I quit early and bucked up the red maple in back. 500i had a nice supper. You can see the shed im rebuilding to store the red maple in. I think there is enough room for it all. Close to six cords for the score. Ill update as i progress. At least another week of work on the job and ill maybe cut an hour every day im there. I have too many other scores besides this im working!
Boy oh boy that must've been tough. You're there trying to do the job you were hired to do, meanwhile your passion is calling out to you... and you're watching other people have all the fun I would've felt the same way too Brad.
It wasnt easy. Admittedly i did spent too much time talking to the boss. They had this interesting sligshot thing they used to rope off the last tree that was pulled over.
I feel like I've asked this before but do you ever save nice, straight logs for milling? If I could find a straight tree in Iowa I'd save it for my milling buddy.
For those days you want to sling two balls around a tree? Brad you have that red headed stepchild bolted to a 500? LOL
I dont mill and even if i did no way to get it there. Straight trees are a dime a dozen round these parts. buzz-saw will be milling soon, but nopt sure if he will be able to pick up logs.
Was bringing a load of wood next door so decided to cut some. Bucked up another full tree and cleared up around the dumpster as its going soon. He moved all the rounds from Friday to the back. Two trees down, 7 to go. Id like to get 2-3 more maples done by weeks end.
Itis good to rotate the use of saws. It keeps you in the know should one be acting up, before you need to depend on it.
