I read somewhere an opinion that the switch would wake up an 250.
    Has anyone tried it?
Been thinking of trying it but am stocked up,well overstocked,on chains for the .325 setup I have.
I like the saw as is but,if it would help,I might want to try it.

JW that's all I've run on my 250. James Miller said his 250 was a dog. I gave him an old bar and chain to put on his and he was happy. 16 " bar. Just buy a 261 to run your .325 chain on.

Pretty sure that would make your 250 slower. All I run in my 50cc saws is .325 m big saws run 3/8. My FIL’s 250 runs .325 and cuts right with my 026/260.

I put a 3/8 picco onto a MS290. I changed out the sprocket for a rim sprocket, so you only have to pull an E clip to change the chain pitch.

I'm sure it would if I used full size 3/8 pitch. My son switched his 290 from .325 to 3/8 ut didn't keep it there long.
I was referring to the 3/8 pitch Low Profile.Smaller tooth on it you file with a 5/32" file.

I've got an 026 I'm going to rebuild which could use up the chain if I get an 18" bar for it.Might be link or so off but plenty of adjustment on the bars.

    68 for the 250
    74 for an 026
    Both 18" bars
    I think an 026 with 16" bar calls for a 67 link.

    My 250 runs .325. My Dolly 5100 runs 3/8”. I don’t envision 3/8” making a 250 cut any quicker. You’d be making a wider kerf

My guess is the 250 would do pretty well with the 3/8 LP chain. A fair amount of people seem to be going that way with good success on smaller saws. I run it on an 011AVT & 020 AV & really like it. Everything else runs 3.8 .050 RS or RM, but I run pretty big CC's on shorter bars. I buck with 75cc or bigger usually.

I put a 3/8 Pico on a 250 and like it, I don't remember the sprocket size though. I only use it for limbing and it does a good job.

    Here's what you want.

And I'll tell you why, it's a mini spline drum. So if you decide you don't like the picco on your 250 you can swap to a .325 rim and continue as you were.

    No brainer to me.

    Butt--it's not only the .325 or 3/8.
Be sure the chain is NON safety ( Stihl yellow ).
