Does anyone have experience switching to a stove with a by pass damper ? Does it cure small amounts of smoke roll out?

The nc30 does not have a bypass damper. It is very easy breathing and does not have a habit of letting smoke out of the door.

I also own a princess and it does have a bypass because of the cat. That thing is very easy/common to let smoke out the door. Low flue temps and a high door opening gives smoke a reason to not go up the chimney when the door is opened.

All stoves are more likely to be smoke leak free with a great chimney system. Be sure your chimney is up to snuff and that your wood is dry.

Sorry. I didn't know the 30 didn't have a damper or that it had been superceded.

It can, provided the stove pipe and chimney liner aren’t smaller than the stove outlet. Even then sometimes it will still draft properly. Chimney temps need to remain very warm to hot as well to help prevent it.

Okay...I remember that thread. Odd though that even Home Depot links to an NC-30 manual instead of the new manual.

I mean, it’s ready or it isn’t...let’s update the manual at Home Depot’s site and get it up on the Englander site as well. Wonder what the hold up is?

Seems to be the norm these days...everybody is in such a time crunch to get the new models designed, tested, built, distributed, that the "extra curricular" stuff comes later after the dust settles a little...its the same deal at other companies right now too...this EPA 2020 certification stuff has everybody's shorts in a wad...

I have an exterior masonry chimney with a new SS liner. Wood is tested internally with a moisture meter. (Those are not the issues). I don't get rolling clouds of smoke coming out, just a few wisps, enough to be annoying. This is when the stove is hot and has been running for a while. Quadrafire 4300 stove. What the guy says in the video between 1:00 and 2:00 makes sense to me:

We open the intake air for a couple seconds before opening the door and that helps us.
