We made it back to the woodyard again last night. Got an extra light set up and bucked 2 fork loads of hickory with the Husky 55. For a Husky, it's a pretty sweet saw. Fills the gap between the MS180 and the big bore 029... Got it loaded on the ramps Got everything stacked from Monday night, needed a bit more to finish 3rd row. Weather held off, so we split more. Got 3 rows complete and started on 4th row. That makes 1.6 cords of hickory so far. Rows are 6' x 8' x 4.5'...
Thanks for jogging my old age memory. I recall the thread now. What are your thoughts compared to Stihl? Only Husky ive used is my little 334 arborists saw
It's very comparable to the stock 029. Maybe a little agile on the smaller stuff, running .325 chain on it. Cuts faster than the MS180. Handles this size wood great.
Still making some progress on the hickory. The pile of long hickory logs when we first started on the shed What we had left whe we started last night Got 2 loads on the forks bucked before we started splitting. Each log make 7- 18" long rounds. Found some really curly grain. Saving a couple pieces for a friend to turn some ink pens. Working on the 4th row.
Nice work T.Jeff Veal. I'm not sure what temps you're having but the last three mornings we had 50 twice and 45 this morning with the temp today at 68.
About 68-72° in the mornings, highs upper 80's. Lot better than it has been, dew points are still high. Pop up thunderboomers somewhere everyday.
Well the pile of hickory logs has been CSS. Got almost 3 cords (2.8) in the shed. 5 rows 18" x 6' x 8' ... Some of it was stringy... And then some straight grained as oak. The foot extensions worked out great.
The more you use that set-up the more you will love it. I use mine on all of the wood I split. Even red oak can get a bit stringy at times.
Had a coworker come get a load of oak to cook a pig for Labor Day. He then ordered 2 loads of 15" splits, we got that ready. He wanted a mix, so he has maple, elm, oak and cherry. First time we have split elm. Foot extension works great for that too.
No sir, just don't usually get any or cut any down for wood. This blew over in a coworker's yard. It had the Spanish moss all over it. I think I had posted pics on page 38.
Thankfully no. Only time I've gotten any, I think. That moss will grow on about any tree, especially along creeks and rivers. He has some in his yard, said they have to pick up the clumps or it will choke down the lawn mower...
