There was another thread where someone asked to see my sawbuck. I can find the thread, so I'm starting a sawbuck specific thread.

Originally I had planned on building an A frame design, and still may some time. For now I made this one from leftover lumber I had last year.

It will take one 10' long log up to say 10" diameter. Or multiple smaller ones (four or five 3"-4"). I find the sawbuck to really help with:

A: Way less bending down to pick up cut pieces. With "arms" spaced close enough together, the wood doesn't fall to the ground.

B: You are not cutting into logs beneath them as you do in a pile.

C: You can do multiple logs at a time, and even though its small diameter wood, it adds up pretty quickly.

As I said, this was leftover lumber scraps. If I were to have to buy the materials, this isn't what I'd make. I'd make a heavier duty A frame design with 4x4 PT frame able to handle up to a single 16" x 10' Red Oak and able to withstand being loaded with tractor forks or a grapple. For now this works pretty good.

    Let's see your designs!!!

I think Shawn Curry had a thread on sawbucks some time ago while he was active on FHC.

Nice to give props to Shawn, I see how folks get so busy, they leave this place for awhile but hope to come back on time. That was a nice build and several members here have that sawbuck he built. Hopefully some can chime in who they are.

I had asked about one when i joined FHC a year ago.

I never did build one as i dont often have much to buck in my PA as most is done prior to it being brought home.

This is along the lines of the one I plan to construct some day

For portable options (if you have a means to move it), this design is pretty cool

Thanks so much for this. I need to build one and it’s nice to have everything in one place.

I’d like a table I could put logs on with my tractor forks to save my back. Do you have an specific ideas?

As far as going cheap, well I've got you all beat! 2 scrap pallets and some old logging chain... Works for me, holds anything I can lift into it, breaks down nice, and I don't feel bad if I nick it with my saw!!

I am planning to build a large saw buck this spring, kinda like the feed table to a firewood processor. I have several steel beams and plan to pour a few piers And build up from there. I want to stage up to ten logs or six large and pull them to me and whack them up. My issue is I want the rounds to fall and collect in one spot where my splitter will be. Once I get some plans and momentum I can share if anyone is interested.
