Monday morning before the kids messed it all up, nothing like knowing I have it all seasoned and covered. Sledding Monday evening in the driving snow, my kind of weather! Making a snow mountain outside of my office window My son's snow fort Beautiful sunset at the sledding hill tonight
More fun in the snow, so far 2019 was better for snow than this year, and 2019s actual winter was a flop. Anyone else see the last star wars? Sadly, one of my neighbors lost their house two weeks before Christmas. Really making a dent in my firewood stash
Any rumors on the cause of that fire? Yes. Sad to see at any time. Especially right before the holidays...
saw a Facebook ad for the nativity in the statehouse. Never heard of it before, but I remember the nativity scene that was on the Boston common when I was a kid. Turns out a couple state reps sponsor the event, with a nativity scene in the statehouse great hall, and a time of caroling ending with a Christmas service. The Ben Franklin look alike is a man who gives tours focused on the heritage the state of Massachusetts was founded on. It's amazing what comes out of a building that has so much History arguing against what they're voting for, hanging right in front of them.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas! Amazing how fast the snow disappeared, the Castle is in the same park I was skiing and snow shoeing in a few weeks before The latest awesome thing I found, they're called sled legs. They strap to your shins and make sledding a lot like skiing. Unlike a sled or tube, they're easy to steer or stop. Unlike skiing, you don't land hard if you fall. I got two pairs for my niece and nephews in lake Placid for Christmas, all their friends and cousins have tried them out and want their own. If you buy two pairs or more at once from the maker, they have a 10% off code, with free shipping. a few of our runs stitched together.
Those are neat. Need to get a set for my grandson. Were they very expensive? Fun watching run down the hill.
They're $50 a set, expensive is a realative term. The hill we like is a bird sanctuary, so it is only mowed in the fall. The stubble is very thorny and those vinyl snow tubes get slashed open in no time. I bought the fabric and heavy duty vinyl covers that have a truck tube inside them to be able to ride the hill in comfort. They're like the ones you rent at some sledding areas with a conveyor belt to ride back up on. Each tube and cover combo cost me $50-70, but over 5 years and many hours on the hill they're worth it. If you buy 2 or more sets directly from the manufacturer at the same time, they have a 10% off code, and free shipping.
I never found them to be a problem with my knees, but I spend plenty of time on my knees in both of my jobs as a pastor and airplane mechanic. They have a shaped foam insert for your knees and ankles, just like the inside of a bicycle helmet
my son refilling the used racks with the rest of the extra split wood. not much left Ended up refilling this much. No more uncovered wood. already burned more than a cord a month at my old job I never had enough time to split wood without a hydraulic splitter, but I got plenty of exercise at work. My new job is mostly desk work and once my work is done I can go home. Been giving my X27 and isocore maul a work out, or actually, they've been giving me a workout! Nothing like swinging the maul in a Tshirt at 30 degrees to feel the burn. Making this wood warm me more than twice not much to show for the time and effort, but I feel better.
plastic gets brittle at 30 degrees, looks like I should be expecting a shiny new one in the mail soon
I've had this one for 8 years now, and it's done plenty of splitting. Back when I got it I didn't have a hydraulic splitter, just a sledge and wedge. A number of guys in the church have taken turns using this axe. If you look closely, the cutting edge is all boogered up from use. It will be nice to see the difference with a new one.
I've tried three times now to put my warranty claim in for my axe, each time I get a server error "max message parameter length is 4194304 characters "
Just called, there warranty page isn't working, the new process is to email a picture of the broken tool to [email protected], they will send instructions to mail the axe handle back to them. The customer service guy said they've had too many scammers. Figures scum would mess up such a good system, but mailing a handle is cheaper than buying another axe
