Hey guys im pickn up a 25" bar for my 441...what chain should i get?...full comp, half skip or full skip?..im pretty sure it would run a full comp pretty easily but full skip im lookin at half of the cutters to sharpen..insights please
Full comp. It will pull it with authority. If you want to save some time sharpening you may want to get some semi-chisel chain. It holds the edge a little longer, especially in dirty wood. If you already have a 20", you may want to consider a 28" instead of 25". Then some skip chain may make a little more sense...but full comp would be fine with a 28" too.
X2... Exactly what he said on the chain... As for the bars? The 28" bar is only 25" to the tip. The 25" is less than 23" when using standard Dawgs. Use R dawgs and its less than 22" Both the 25" and 28" will pull full comp. So no need in buying any skip, unless you just want less cutters to sharpen. Here is a pic of the 28" on the saw and thee 25" lined up underneath it. The tape is at the end of the dawg (small dawg) and it's about 25.5" to the end.
That's skip in that picture. I like semi skip best myself. I'd go 28" over 24" also. It's only 3 cutters with full comp.
Yeah. I ordered some chain and messed up on the order. That 460 doesn't need skip until it hits around 36"
I just used the 25" b/c on my 441C-M last weekend. The 25" feels just as easy to handle as the 20" I have on it. Go 28"... or buy mine. I might package mine up with an 038 Mag and see what it fetches. I was looking for semi-chisel and could only find Oregon available online, and the RM stuff on the stealer's shelves were >$25 for a 20" chain! Oh - and crank up that oiler! After I felled the tree I went to my limbing saw. I noticed after my buddy un-pinched his saw with my 441, he was bucking the stem with the 441 and the bar was showing a little brown on the edge. No biggie, but crank it up.
+1 on the full comp. Also, if you have a 20" bar for the 441, I also run the 28" ES Light bar on my 441. It had no trouble pulling that in hardwoods with full comp chisel chain on it. I also upgraded the oil pump on my 441 to the higher output unit off the MS441RC-M.
Full comp it is...lol...you think $25 bucks is bad?????..i paid $36 for a 20" 3/8 50....$40 with tax....my azz is still sore!
