Yeah, this is the right way to do it. Don't need a big tonnage splitter either.

I think he was just kidding, much like Backwoods Savage, I and several others always say vertical is the right way.

Not gonna get into a bunch keyboard name calling with you In the Pines . Way to busy for that stuff .

I meant my post as nothing but as a joke as we all prefer different ways of splitting wood or for that matter chainsaw preference. Neither way is the right way , it’s what works for you .

If I offended the Op , I do sincerely apologize.

First of all, what equipment do you have now? How much $$ do you want to spend on a splitter? We have split quite a few over 40", with a regular splitter in the vertical position. This is a platform we made for the bigger rounds. Roll them next to it, flip on the pipe and slide under wedge. IMG_20180720_132925695.jpg IMG_20180402_080253.jpg IMG_20180402_080118.jpg this is a pry/chop bar we made IMG_20181001_105758683.jpg Also use a 48" cant hook.

If $$ isn't an object, I looked at a Wolf Ridge splitter with box wedge/ log lift, compact model for about 8K.

op here i appreciate all the responses and ive been thinking some more and i think that the Timberwolf Alpha looks pretty good for me. I do like how i don't have to handle the chunks as much with a guillotine but i appreciate whoever told me the term for a guillotine splitter because i've been trying to figure that out forever! I wish i could only order small logs but the tree guys and loggers really cater to the big guys around here so its getting difficult to find wood. any tips on that would also be great. Much appreciated guys!

It’s a Wild Ridge splitter. 35 ton. I split some 36” red oak this weekend...picked up the full 20” pc I had bucked and split it with the 4 way. Then split those all again.

Yeah, I always thought the guillotine type splitter was a really smart way to do it. The table top height with rollers should eliminate bending over and having to exert much energy to getting the job done. It looks like most of the tempest models got taken over by wood mizer. Take a look at the horizontal box splitters. They look identical except from paint color on some parts.

The Beaver with the winch is a good machine for big rounds ,but to use the winch you have to stay hooked up to the pickup or the splitter just upends .

The downside to the Beaver there was only a dozen of them made and in the 35 years that I owned this one have never seen another for sale . Of all the machines that are made today IMO the large Timber Wolf is the best for handling big wood .
