As most of you know metalcuttr "nominated" me for most prolific scrounger and gifted me one of his "works of art" metal cut outs. Id like dedicate this scrounge to him. Heres to you! Its not much, but as most of you know i dont hoard pine or softwoods. More than enough hardwoods available to me. I bucked a couple off one of the trunks and halved one with the Isocore and it took about ten whacks to half it. I thought pine split easily? Ten whacks on the second one and no go so i left it. Knot free too! Bucked a smaller round and took some scraps and nuggets. Firepit wood for next year. Funny as metalcuttr had said i would take some of the pine. See my thread This Pine Could be Mine? Last two pics of what he made for me.
That's a cool plaque that Metalcutter made for you ! I don't think any species of pine splits very easy when it's green.
buZZsaw BRAD i picture you with a nice broken in pair of overalls. Ever don the uniform of stovesmanship? I think im going to start wearing them so i stop ruining shirts.
Thats cash money. Ive gotten to the point that I only take PERFECT pieces when i find a hoard so that i have more room for other hoards. Theres something about a hoard that makes life worth living. Another reason i like to spread my hoards out because if i have the wood i will split it all at once. My x27 makes short work of a fave cord.
this is how im usually dressed either for work or wood. Dickies work pants and a "high visibility" shirt. Even have a sweatshirt like that. Havent worn jeans for work in many years. Winter its thermals with an extra sweatshirt. Rarely a winter work coat. Dont like restrictive clothing. Pic from June. AWHNR!
I did that last week at a road side scrounge. Cut all the perfect pieces. If you go there its nothing but knotty and gnarly pieces plus some nuggets and cookies. The gnarly sugar and chestnut from today goes to my friend for "rent".
Ive given serious thought to keeping a face cord of soft wood around but then I ask myself why with such limited space. I can get all the hardwoods i want so i should maximize btu’s
I agree 110%. Ill bet theres at least six heaping PU fulls of pine where i just got that load. Couple big trunks that would make some nice milled boards. Couple big ones still to come down.
You clean up nice! And metalcuttr sent you a bonus plaque, too! They are very impressive. Where will you hang them? I mounted mine to a piece of dark barnboard. Please add pics to Plasma cut metal art
Good on you and metalcuttr. You deserve it and he does some fine cuttin. I’ve seen some pine my 28 ton couldn’t get through. Blew a high pressure line trying. It’s laying in the swamp now. Sometimes there are things just not worth doing. Even if you wear a tuxedo for the occasion LOL Have a collection of pine logs from around the house clearing. I’ll split em up but if anything gives me trouble it’ll either go in the woods or burn pit.
Look at you all fancied up! Was the award show televised? I must have missed it. Congrats on the award, well deserved buZZsaw BRAD
For pine you've got to cleave off the sap wood from the edges. Once you've done that it comes apart pretty easy.
