Yeah, same here...plenty of birds...heck I seen the first robin probably 6 weeks ago...I bet he regretted being the early bird this year!
While spring brings the loons with their beautiful, almost haunting calls, Memorial Day weekend signals the return of the rest of the loons. Traffic in my neighborhood doubles in the summer months.
Seeing most of the usual birds but not quite as much singing as usual, but it's a bit early yet and it hasn't been above 60 much either. A pair of goshawks have taken up in the woods behind the house and they seem to do an awful lot of squawking every time I walk thru or work on processing some of the blow down trees for firewood. They make a noise similar to a squirrel when they aren't happy you are there. I've heard them in years past but never really looked out for them.
In southern Maine the barn swallows came back the second week of May, like clockwork. At CSU they came back a week or two earlier, and here in VT it is late April (we are warmer earlier than coastal Maine is). Robins are out eating worms in a fresh, light snow this morning, and some geese are commuting from corn field to ponds past our place each evening. I see the ice is almost fully gone from the farm pond, so peepers will be peeping soon.
Already have robins and redwing blackbirds here, the peepers been peeping for at least a week now, and today I noticed that the frogs are really active in the dammed up ravine. Spring is in full swing here, and soon the flowers will be blooming.
Well the birds are out there this morning singing like tomorrow, including a tom Turkey gobbling from his roost in the big White Pines across the road.
Still had snow on the garage roof and of course our yards (cottage-where garage is at and here too) but I'll bet it took a beating today! May take a skip down there tomorrow morning to take a peek.
Seen my 1st gold finch earlier and just now had both male and female goldfinch along with a male cardinal on the feeder.
