After a long cold snap, i went through way more wood this season than I would have thought, last night loaded the last of what I had that was dry-ish Hoping to cut up some logs this morning Had to work till lunch, figured pick up some chains for the saw after and get to it. Well made it to the saw shop and didn't realize they closed at noon, dang it! Went to my buddies place and mentioned I needed wood, he said I could have all the poplar i forgot to pick up in fall all bucked and stacked! Got at least a cord and a half brought home Will get me going for a bit till get sone cut, (i know its not ideal but....)
Well that isn't great at all Creekin At least you have some of that poplar wood, beats nothing for sure. Hope you can find/harvest some standing dead wood.
So, what you have to do now is: Figure your full winter burn and cut x3 at a minimum this year, then find some standing dead to help you get through the next two years. You'll be busy!
Time for a new plan, eh? Ther's one called "The 3 year plan"......you might have heard us mention that. Just doin' a little chop bustin'. That plan works for more than just having dry wood. Takes a couple minutes to get there, but it can be done. Like Dave said (the one right above me, not me, or the other one above him), figure out what you've burned this year and work on getting more than that for next year. Took me almost 4 years to get to Dry wood status and the full 3YP. Like money in the bank.
I've actually got about 9 cord of elm piled up for next year, 6 cord of oak that might be ready for the year after that, have a number of logs that need to be cut up but under snow at the moment Hoping to hit it pretty hard before the ground thaws, need to cut for 14 cord per year now
Ive been trying hard to get to that mythical 3 year plan, guess I should have mentioned too that my folks have been raiding my stacks all winter too, in fall i was like "i got lots, never run out", then my cousin brought me about 100 pallets to which I paid him with a cord of ash
There was actually a bit of an reason behind it, my cousin put in a boiler last winter, he's been cutting up pallets to burn in it Figured if I can get him to switch to cord wood i might have some help out in the bush Other reason, flat broke, couldn't give him cash, besides have lots of wood!
Been contemplating building a processor for some time now, slowly getting parts and pieces together, beam, engine, wedge material, pump, etc. If not an actual processor then an insane splitter with conveyor to dump into the 3 ton truck
Figured after i had a good stash built up, start selling some to get back some $$ Got my eyes on getting a bobcat to make moving things around easier too
