Just made one today. Blades were cut of 3/16" huge circular saw metal so they are high carbon. Rings are 9"ID and 1.5"wide. Holes are 3/8" for bolt down. Angle iron is 1.25"X1.25"X1/8" thick. Any welding involving the high carbon steel I pre-heated and welded with 308 stainless steel wire. Actually works very well! You first have to split down to about 5"X5" or 6"X6" with the axe, then start splitting into quarters with the cracker. It is a little faster than splitting with a house axe or hatchet but the splits stay contained in the ring instead of scattered all over the ground! Not so much bending down! Fun little project for the afternoon and very functional!

I just make most of my kindling as I need it now, in the basement , No worries about running out and having to make it outside in the cold .
I changed how I do it now though I sit on a bucket And I put the kindling cracker on the floor , if the Piece is too big for The kindling cracker my Firewood Friend Takes care of that

Nope! :handshake: But I guess I didn't need the UTV that bad either (11 miles on it now-since Oct).

And the last three guns I have bought, have yet to be fired.

And do I really need a new house? Naw, but that decision will be made shortly! :picard:

It must be the bad influence of this place. That's the only thing I can figure!

Now that's what I'm talking about, right there!

I'm going to have to change my purchasing habits to only things I'll use right away...like food and fuel!

I bought a 5/8" chuck electric drill (7 amp) yesterday that I have no intention of using until mid to late summer.

Took a whole afternoon to make it, hey? I guess the Chinese don't have to worry about you! Tough looking cracker, I like the 4-way, did you hit any knots?

Did it for fun not profit and it was the first one so a little bit of cut and fit. I have a Chinese acquaintance but I doubt He will be worried! I usually save nice straight grained pieces of fir, especially if it is pitchy, for kindling so no knots. The best part was that the pieces stay more or less contained instead of scattering all around the chopping block!

Yes I like that the pieces are contained And they don't fly up and hit you in the eye brow like before :hair::whistle:
Guy walks into a woodworkers shop and see's a chair he likes And asks how much , The man says $150 , Customer says great I want you to make 6 more , The man says no problem but they will be $300 apiece , Customer says why First one is 150 and the rest are 300? Man says because the first one was fun :)

So very true! If I do a drawing and cut it out, it's fun to see the finished product. There is satisfaction in cutting it the second time to prove you can reproduce it. Everything after that is just manufacturing!

Hey thanks for the link. I pulled the trigger last night. Didn’t need it but I wanted it.

Seems safer, yea that’s it! Safety First. If I hurt myself splitting kindling and couldn’t work....yadda yadda

I bet you use yours before I use mine...…:picard:

I looked on the map where you are located and you live in some nice country side out there. 08 or 09 found us on a road trip to NYC and we stayed somewhere right around where your location is if my memory serves me correctly. There was a bar that served very large hamburgers....Denys, maybe? Nice meal, I had ribs.
