Not 100% my fault, But I will take 50% credit. Once the wifey and son figured out theres a way we can buffer these to run a bit before shutting down. They both wanted it!! No different than the wifeys laptop that handles a good 20 minutes or better before she even realizes we lost power!!

Ordering up a fuel cell and 15 to 20 solar panels. A couple a wind gennies and 50 some odd batteries aught to cover da whole house needs and maybe even some of the neighbors too.............. Kidding, if you couldn't tell. But who knows!!

Ok, checked w/ a meter after charging, but how about after running (x) minutes on UPS-only voltage? That's the -real- test of battery state JT: ability to maintain cell voltage after voltage discharge. * This is no different than having a "bad cell" in a car battery - the condition happens more often / faster in UPS batteries though. ... A failed cell in a given battery in the UPS battery bank is the typical cause of UPS "failure".

Suggest re-testing each individual battery in the pack, which means removal and disconnecting the (series) battery lead between the (2) batteries.

*If each battery in the pack tests good (within .5 volt of each other) - then you have a suspect UPS unit.

Suspect UPS units are like "refurbs" - I don't gamble on someone else's potential headache. Return the unit. ... Just tell him you got a killer deal on (eBay) / you don't need the unit.

Yep, I did not test the batt voltage under the load. I'm pretty sure these batteries aren't the greatest. I do also like the "why go used when new will do" motto!!

    I must ponder a while!!

Not trying to "preach" here JT, just trying to give the benefit of personal / professional experience, for your consideration.

Using a "suspect" UPS unit to protect -any- equipment, whether it's corporate mission-critical IT, or personal home tech / AV components, can get real expensive - real quick. ... Add up the total cost of component(s) you expect to protect w/ a given UPS unit, and weigh the cost of replacement: vs. your confidence level of the UPS unit in question.

FWIW, I'd take an older used "data center" UPS unit that's been properly maintained -> and serviced w/ new battery pack(s), over any "suspect" consumer-grade UPS .. for component protection, any day of the week.

You're welcome JT - anytime. Pellet & Beerheads gotta stick together.

I would continue using the (current) TrippLite SmartPro UPS unit on the stove until the new 1000 watt unit comes in,

Fully Q/A & test the new 1000 watt unit using known good (or new) batteries, checking each battery's voltage before, and after a functional test cycle,

If the 1000 watt unit passes muster, use that as the (primary) UPS unit on the stove,

Move the (current) TrippLite SmartPro UPS unit to the entertainment / AV center,

Purchase (new) Cyberpower PFC pure sine wave units for the other rooms / equipment you wish to protect in the home. Go for the 1,500 units, when you can afford them.

And would Ditch the OMNI1500 co-worker supplied unit. * Wouldn't spend any amount of time on it - just let him/her know it failed a functional test & needs new batteries.. at a minimum.

Keeping a good thought that the new 1000 watt SmartPro UPS unit coming in is good-to-go for you on the fire-breathing Dragon Enviro stove.

The discrepancy between VA and Watts is because of the power factor which depends on the load. Electric motors use reactive power which skews the power factor away from unity. Anything that's not a pure resistive load takes or injects reactive power.

At this point, you might as well get a UPS like this and power your whole house.

My PC shop bud left me a message this morning. He's got a couple of these at his shop he forgot he even had. Willing to deal on one. New never used with full warranty. Cyberpowers Gamer version of the PFC series that also protect the PS4/Xbox. I might pick one up for Joeys PC. Gonna put the killa watt meter to use tonight. I know his PC has 1K watt power supply.

    GX1325U Gaming UPS | CyberPower

My co worker said I can chuck the other UPS as He down sized to help cut electric costs. He agreed that its likely more trouble than its worth. I may just stick it in the basement as a back up for some lighting...... I can't see tossing it. To freakin fruggle I am. But won't connect anything important either!! Frugal all around!

That unit is at one of my Philly sites, it was due for it's 7 year caps (AC and DC) and fans replacement....per the manufacturer, Liebert (then Emerson now Vertiv). We just install a brand new unit at one of our other Philly sites (Vertiv 100kVA) and unfortunately these come from China now....I won't get started on that whole thing.

It's worth picking up a set of ($30-$40) replacement batteries on Amazon & installing -> testing before use -

running the UPS w/ a bad battery pack (even on A/C power: as most UPS units periodically 'cycle' to do a functional test / charge) will kill the UPS internal circuitry / cause a good unit to go bad - in a timely manner. :( * (Unit may still be good, just the batteries may be chit .. is what I'm trying to say.)

I'd pull the battery pack, take some pics, check each battery's voltage to confirm, and leave unplugged, until some fresh batteries are installed. Should be easy to source 'em on Amazon, but give a shout out if I can be of any help w/ this.

Always impressive to see the stuff you get to play with there, Steve.

Scored! One was perfect in box, Other was a display(box was mutilated) but other than brand new never plugged in w/all accessories too. Had another that was used in his shop, But passed on that one.

I can pic up the one without the box for $130 out the door. I put a $20 deposit on it, But got to check Joeys PC requirements before I pick it up.

I might even grab the new one if I can swing the :makeitrain"

Batteries are on their way out. So I will definitely get some new ones. :emptywallet:
