I stopped by the dealer today and was eying the 391 just for giggles. I don't think that one is autotune.

I picked up 6 bar nuts as I lost 3 this weekend. From now on, I'm going to double check those every time I re-fill. :(

I love the captive bar nuts on my 362...I'm surprised they haven't rolled that into all of the newer models.

What is a captive bar nut? Mine is a simple bolt and nut. They come lose from time to time. I need to recheck them more often. $1.59 each plus tax, but that's just the cost of doing business.

No a 391 is not auto tune. Its just the updated 390. I prefer the 390 as it has the air filter cover that cover comes off and you dont have to take the whole cylinder cover plasticoff to ccheck it.

Bar nuts are built into the cover in such a way that you will not lose one unless you lose the entire cover.

The 391 is a little more than an updated 390. In fact, they share almost nothing in common. While I like how easy the air filter cover pops off on older Stihls, the new saws have come ahead a couple decades in air filtration technology meaning they don't always need to be cleaned out/checked after every tank of fuel. That new cover comes off just as fast but you need a scrench or screwdriver to do it. Can't say as I've found it frustrating yet on my MS261. There is a lot better access for cleaning and maintenance once that whole top is off as well.

With the final MS290s petering out of dealer inventory, I say RIP 1127 series. It was a good run. ;)

That's the only thing I don't like about my saw. Getting it off is no problem, but for some reason I haven't found the trick to getting it lined up correctly and back on without 2-3 attempts. This is most likely 100% my fault and all I need to do is pay closer attention one time when I remove it.

I have about 5 tanks through my saw now and the filter is barely dusty.

What is the displacement on the 362 ? Is that the same as the 360?

The MS 290 is a good saw for what it is. I agree. I'm not parting with mine. :)

Close, the 362 is 59cc (correct me if I'm wrong 362 owners...) and the 036/360 is 62cc.

Yep. The 360/036 is 62 cc (61.5 to be precise) and the 362 is 59 cc.

I finally did my muff mod on the 362C....

I still kept it conservative. Strato saws are said to not need the drastic opening like standard port saws.

Lots of room left to open it. I more than doubled the existing hole. But it's still only around 50% of the exhaust port itself.

Nice work, DD. Did you put the screen back in? How does it sound?

How much power did that add? Noticeable?

These new mufflers are 2 piece. They open up and you can grind from inside and outside.

My daughter had a fever yesterday, so I didn't even start it. I will know today :)

Yep. I reinstalled the screen. For now anyways. As for the sound, today is the day of reckoning.

The 362C sounds pretty good as is, but compared to the 441C? It's definitely muffled. This should help it's throttle response and keep it running a little cooler. . . And make it sound better too. :saw:

    Sounds better :)

Throttle response is hard to tell (already revs like craxy), seems to rev faster and in the cut it seemed a little stronger. I should have tested it in wood before and after, but I know it didn't hurt it.

The sound definitely improved. . ;)

Cleaned up that last tree that was split at the top yesterday. What a mess. It was split, and leaning against a dead tree itself. Not an ideal cutting situation.

It's a little wet in my yard (last few acres I don't cut and used to have a motocross track and a mud bog for trucks.)

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. My saw is already loud as chit so I'm not sure I want it any louder.

Careful you don't find yourself vertical with that tow strap hooked up to the back rack.
