No, I just swapped the old stuff. Will it boot if there is no ram? There's 4 ram sticks. Do I need to have them in pairs, or particular slots?

Yellow light is on the motherboard and on the front of the case when I attempt to power it up. The CPU fan does not spin.

No ram=no boot. Bad processor = no boot. Bad fan = no boot. Sometimes, not often, bad video card = no boot. If there is onboard video, take the external video card out of the equation.

The yellow light in the mobo

This led comes on as soon as I turn the PS switch on. It goes out after a few seconds when I unplug/turn it off.
    And in the power button

I don't think this unit has onboard video board. That's a separate card that I swapped over to the new Mobo. I think that led in the mobo tells me the power supply is good. Right?

    I'll try switching RAM around.

Gotta go out to dinner and drink some tequila soon.

Light on the motherboard is a sign that there is power. Suggests the problem is not the power supply.

This seems to be a problem, and if the fan was dying it likely took the processor with it.

I don't think the processor can even run a second or two without a fan. They generate a lot of heat.

Do you have any parts other than the power supply you can swap out for testing?
a spare video card by chance?
does the cpu fan spin at all when you hit the power button?
they will usually (iirc) do a quick spin up even in a non-boot situation. That should rule out if the cpu fan is bad.

No, they don't typically lock up like that.

24 oz wouldn't do it, 5 lb is so much more satisfying!

On boot, have you tried hitting F2 key to load the BIOS or
    the internal diags?

Either of those two things will tell you more.

    ...ok...when you turn it on,
if you it the F2 key,
does BIOS or the internal diags load?

Ok, I'm back guys. I think this may be the issue. Chaz the fan on the cpu doesn't spin up at all. I do have an old Dell desktop that this one replaced in the basement. I'll see if there's a fan I can steal.

brenndatomu , yeah, I cleaned it all up before I swapped the old cpu heatsink and fan . There was a lot of dust on the CPU heatsink. Not clogged, but enough. The fan spins freely bt hand.

    Correct. No boot.

Would it be possible to swap a different/faster CPU into this mobo? Or would I have to drop in the exact or same "family/series" of CPUs?
