New truck shopping

I object, I strenuously object.................the title is new TRUCK shopping...........TRUCKS are 3/4-1 ton with diesel engines...............

 

Gramps always said trucks were 5 ton plus.. Others were pick ups!!

 

But, But, But, Gramps wasn't paying 3-5$ per/gal or Liter for fuel either and the dang things could be repaired at home with minimal tools. That said I had one set of grandparents that never owed a car nor ever had a drivers lic. ( city folk) but they made good money renting out the 3 car garage they had. Other side all farm- nuf said. yea we walked a lot also. Equipment was for production .

 

Then why are we talking about 6.0L's...

 

Cuz you lumped 'em in the same pile with the 7.3's and about made muh head spin off muh shoulders...

 

Now that I dumped 10k into my motor it’s one bad 6.0.

The 6.0 is a good engine. It is the lack of maintenance or poor maintenance that kills it.

 

Can I borrow your Cummins? I doubt I'll hurt it since they are designed to run balls to the wall 24/7.

An engine in an industrial application is going to be tuned different than an automotive engine. Where the old 12 vavle made 160hp back in the day, in a road grader it may have been 90hp. In something like a pump or generator it may have been less.

I don't believe any diesel engine in a pick up will run a million miles, especially if it has been worked. That is like these people claiming to hit a million miles on a car. Hyundai Elantra owner drives 1 million miles in 5 years

 

do you do all your own maintenance on your diesels?

 

you would not hurt the motor, the Cummins is as close to perfect as they come. The problem is with the torque it makes it, in the low range, it will tear apart everything attached to it.

please show me where Cummins, not Ram, not transmissions, where Cummins has had issues with their engines.

As far as the million mile statement there are many million mile Cummins, verified by Cummins, in pick up trucks. Check their website.

Funny enough, just yesterday FCA just released the new 2500 with 1000 ft lbs of torque.

 

I've seen a lot of rangers, S10's and Tacoma's get more work done than most of the 3/4 ton and up diesel trucks.

2500 is rated lower than the 3500 with optional HO

 

Heck, I do more with my Audi wagon than most of the diesel brodozer owners do.

 

I didn't even read the article, I just saw that the new HD ram with a Cummins had 1000 lb-ft of tq. I assumed that the same engine was available between the 2500 and 3500. It makes sense that the 3500 has the available torque monster.
