Probably just from a lower burn.

I don't know. I have been burning at 4-4 since the milder weather hit. But it just seems like it got dirtier quicker. Made me wonder if it could have been a bad bag of pellets. Does that ever happen? Moisture in a leaky bag? I don't know.

Could have been....or your stove needs a cleaning maybe? Mine gets like that when burning on low and the stove needs a good cleaning.

Fired the Fahrenheit back up a bit ago. It's going to get close to freezing tonight and the weather folks are calling for freezing rain overnight and tomorrow. :headbang:

I saw some excavation equipment at the neighbors the past few days. At first I thought their septic system failed, but they're getting a geothermal system installed. I'll be interested to see how that all works out for them as I'm not very familiar with that technology. I'll still stick with pellets and firewood.

Much lower burning at this time of year will make the stove dirty quicker as the higher burn rates will act as a sort of self cleaning.
Cleaned my stove last Sunday and have had a much better burn with significantly cleaner glass since. Prior to this, the FSU made the glass black that couldnt be cleaned with a dry wipe while now it only gets a light gray haze that wipes clean with no effort.

Yeah, it was pretty black prior. I had alot of carbon buildup in the pot as well, make sure you scrape that thoroughly as well as opening up all your air holes. I use some old, small drill bits for this as the scrape the holes nicely. Just be careful not to damage the ignitor under some of the holes.

I use a good size screw driver for getting the carbon buildup off. Works better than the scrapper tool that came with the stove. So far, the glass cleans easily with a damp paper towel. Some times I have to clean it three times to remove all residual.

Larry, try some Rutland Stove Glass Cleaner when its completely cooled off. That stuff works great and leaves a polished film behind to assist in future cleaning. You can find it anywhere that has stove products and I have just opened my 2nd bottle in 4 years, a little on a rag goes a long way. It also is the best stuff I have found for ceramic top electric kitchen ranges. Works way better than anything else on the market for that as well.

Edit-Also as far as the burn pot goes, you need to keep those air holes open-every so often use something to scrape/bore inside each one to the original size. The holes closer to the fire do close up a bit with carbon and sometime it does not look like they do.

See if you can find a mechanics pry bar as a scraper-thay have a good angle and are heavy enough to break through the carbon, especially while burning.

Here is the one I use, but it dont seem like they sell it alone any more.

A wet paper towel or micro fiber cloth dipped in the FREE stove ash works as well as any commercial cleaner.

A large flat bladed screw driver and a hammer works just fine for me.

My sister is over dropping of 25 bags of Uncle Jed's pellets. She gets a discount on them and picked some up for me. Now I have options...uncle Jed's, Sommersets or chitty Vulcan Wood Products.

True, but when the fire is burning, I want leverage, weight, distance and no chance of slipping with the hammer and screwdiver.
