I have found that running the ground wire directly to the lights rather then just using the trailer frame for grounding greatly reduces problems.
Dedicated ground wires make troubleshooting light problems a LOT easier I also use a 7 pole junction box at the front of the trailer. It makes the connections easier, and also easier to replace the pigtail
Well this is what I am coming up with so far. Half welded half mock-up. It is free standing off the front of the trailer. I’m trying a new flux wire out and it is complete crap... I can barely strike an arc let alone keep the pool moving I may be taking it back and going back to forney E71T-gs good as Lincoln or Hobart wire and cheaper. The new wire just plain looks like crap... I had to fill a few very large gaps and grind down two welds then fill again do to that wire
Well so went to farm and home and picked up more forney 035 flux what a difference that makes... looks so much better!
Definitely looks like better welds. Quality materials definitely make for a better outcome. edit.. Someone's been busy today. Good work.
You think that top square tube will hold? Thats the one thing I dont like on the winch stand. I am thinking about boxing the ends for strength.
Box the ends, and run a gusset plate from the back of the receiver tube to the diagonal supports, one per side. Some flat bar will work fine. Should spread the force and not have that cross tube want to "rock" under load.
Looking good Pete! I've heard anti-spatter spray works well for mig flux welding Lincoln Electric Anti Spatter Non-Stick Spray-KH505 - The Home Depot .. BTW I did order a small stick welder to play around with.. I bought it at Ebay with a 13% off coupon for $126.65.. 160 Amp Digital Display LCD Stick/ARC DC Inverter 115V & 230V Welding Machine Now I need some scrap metal to practice on..
I use anti splatter spray also forney brand except it’s almost gone and I forgot to grab more.... Scrap can be easy to find if you know where to go. I get it from steel yards as dirty metal and sometimes mild steel leftover from work. A lot of job sites give it to you free as well... Don’t pay box store prices you’ll go broke.
Yes!!! Exactly what I had in my mind. 2 x 1/4 flat would be perfect. Allows lots of vertical weld strength. Perfect.
