That’s a good idea. How has yours held up? More I think on it the more I think that’s what I want to do.
Well $270 was the cheapest quote for sandblasting the trailer so it’s getting por 15 on the bad spots... I bought 6 pints so it lasts longer.... I have used chassis saver a lot and it’s all water cured polyurethane so as long as it’s too coated it should last for many years to come. Stuff is hard as a rock when it dries to...
I really like the winch mount idea, very nice. I had thought of mentioning recessed tie down points on the new floor, but not sure that it would be tough enough for what you may be loading/strapping down. An ATV is much different than a healthy load of logs.
I like the idea!!!! I’ll take a look at some. Tonight I had an awesome idea! I’m going to cut cookies out of some of the 2*2 tubing 1” thick and weld it to the sides for extra hook spots for the trailer. Ratchet straps and what not.
I was thinking something along these lines.. (4 pack) Recessed Pan Fitting w/ Tie Down Rope Ring (5,000 lbs.) Amazon offering, 6K# with backing plates.. much gooder They would work good for strapping down ATV's and such, but not sure about a good sized load of logs. These list at 5K # of break strength, but there are more durable ones, at higher cost of course. At least these recess and are out of the way when not in use.
Those would be sweet for hauling the tractor and log splitter if I put them over the crossmembers and anchored them!
Mine are not recessed and are much heavier duty than those, but I bolted thru the cross members and they hold anything
Question would a 7way allow me to run the winch off the AUX charge wire or is that just for batteries?
I stopped and looked at some today but they where pricey. Currently building an amazon pile of stuff I’ll see wha I can find there. I’d prefer them to be flush but maybe they have heavy duty flush d rings
Waaaaaaayy to high of a power draw to use the trailer wiring as winch power. The thicker the wire the better for a winch. Manual should state the draw. Then use appropriate sized wire. Probably 8 guage. Always use an inline fuse also! Look into snow plow power cable connections so you have a quick disconnect.

Mount a battery to the trailer tongue and run the vehicle 12v wire to it to keep it charged, and run the winch off the trailer battery
Depends on the power run length. That battery still needs to be charged during use and a smaller wire will max. out quickly if overused. #2- 2/0 wire will work fine. Dependent on the length of the run and winch requirements.
That set-up may limit you. From the end of the receiver, how much of the winch is hanging into the trailer space? What angle is the cable when you have a log hooked up? What sort of gussets/supports are you adding? I'd prefer to see a vertical support for the main winch mount, two angled braces for each frame point @ the base of the side rails, straight brace from new channel cross to front frame cross, and a brace from vertical support to side rail (front). And the vertical should be .250 wall min., .375 better. Don't mean to be a buzz-kill, but it's better to build it heavy the first time. *disclaimer- PP isn't an idiot, but a lot of the people I deal with are. So we tend to build over-kill. edit- PP, springs look great. Glad you found a match.
For tie-downs, you could add some weld-on chain banjo eyes. I prefer log chain for tie downs. I have used 1/2” emt, galvanized pipe, and PVC to run trailer wire. The most durable has been the pipe- bend the pipe, don’t use fittings- easier to fish the wire thru. Also, run individual pipes to both sides- no crosspiece on the back. This lets you pull extension cord thru for turn/break/reverse. I also ran a shorter pipe to the axle for breaks- I also put the wire in flex conduit- extra protection is always better
I’ll put another pic up in a little while I haven’t gotten back to the trailer yet. The winch setup is going to be much stronger.... That’s just the beginning of what I mocked up I spent another hour doing the rest I didn’t get a pic though... The scrap on the tongue has a piece going to the front of the trailer then a vertical support up to the winch support to hold the downward pressure. It’s got to be able to hold the splitter weight and any other random items maybe even logs getting pulled into it. I am attempting to avoid attaching it to the rail at all.so far it’s all 2*2 1/8” thick tubing. I like the idea of two more side supports to stop it from moving sideways at all....
The springs are big Tex or something like that I forget but they are still imported. If they said big Tex $99 each but because big Tex left them unlabeled without the assembled in USA they say made in China they where much cheaper either way they should work well. They are still 8” shorter than the last ones..... ( not to happ about that..) I wish I had kept my old arc welder the mig does well but it’s such incredibly dirty metal even after it’s as clean as I can get it that I’ve made multiple passes on more than one spot...
I like the emt idea. Probably what I’ll do just weld it on in place of the old pipe. Last night I ordered 14 guage individual wire spoils each 100 ft long because I am adding running lights to the trailer. It vanishes begins whatever is pulling do to being so narrow. I’m also running two crazy bright led backup lights off it so I can actually see backing up for a change. There’s also a very nice heavy duty water tight junction box on its way! Somewhere I have a large amount of wire loom too I just have to find it.
Most likely I’ll weld a bolt on for a trailer ground too so it doesnt rot away like a zip screw or bolt will..
