Yup, that Peavey worked great? And thanks for the safety pep talk. Working in those vines definitely requires attention to what your feet are doing and making sure their not tied down before making a move.
I have two younger sisters sharing a house about 3/4 of a mile down the street the other way. I can't catch a break.
I wasn't really all that comfortable with the wind gusts still moving the tree tops around quite a bit. That's across about two acres. Funny how the pine trees can fall like dominoes, this one falling on that one, which has fallen against the next one . Three or four all in a line. Which one do you cut first ? LOL. How much will the one on top roll ?
Hope you get together with the power crew and have them tell you when it is safe to start cutting. They may want some help if they know you are willing to wait for the power to be killed.
Two guys in a bucket truck showed up to cut the tree off the wire at 11PM last night but they couldn't do anything until a power crew showed up. They sat there for a while and then they were gone.
Had our power down for about 4 hours today. A crew was down at the end of the road cutting up a tree that must have been on the lines, but didn't kill the power. I'm pretty sure they cut the power so that they could safely chop up the tree. Wasn't Nat'l Grid crew, so Nat'l Grid must have their hands full and recruited some help from other states or counties, I heard that most all of the powergrid companies have agreements to help each other out in times of need. Good on them. Railroad company will be hiring some crews also.. several trees are down over the tracks. Quite a mess out this way. Jill and I are very happy we had the large pine and HUGE maple that were next to the house taken down this past summer. The maple would've taken out our front porch and a fair chunk of roof had it come down in this. Stay safe everyone during the cleanup.
About a year ago got this 350 on the side of the road under a chair that had sign"Free". I did the steel clamp fix and got it running. This morning I replaced the p/c with nearly new, the boot, division wall and impulse line and took out for the clean up. It's lovely with the new 16" bar and chain. 80% of my time and effort was getting vines out of the field. Not quite done making rounds.
Could you translate that please?? All I got was that you got the chainsaw for free, did a lot of work to it (that's where ya lost me), and now it runs great with a 16" bar. I just missed out on the 'steel clamp fix'.. the p/c.. division wall.. impulse line. I am gonna go way out on a snowy limb and state that I think 'the boot' is the rubber air intake piece connecting to the carb. Perhaps it's like that "Jeep Thing" and I just don't understand. edit.. It MUST be true... it seems that every Jeep tells me so. Thx Chaz
The steel clamp is to fix a known problem where division wall and boot marry the cylinder inlet port. Older versions had a plastic clip integral to the design that would creep and become a source of air leakage. Learned that here on FHC. I replaced the Piston and Cylinder with nearly new. All the rest is the plastic and rubber between the carb and the cylinder. They can be source of air infiltration also. Let me know if that captures it
Ok.. so correct me if I'm wrong.. The boot.. the rubber piece between carb and cyl head intake. Had to replace that on my PP4218 and weedwacker this past year. Division wall I'm still a bit lost on. Piston/Cylinder I get. And it wouldn't run properly because of air leakage after the carb which messed with the fuel/air ratio. Chaz
This is my 353 with a 346xp upgrade, which is only the piston and cylinder. It almost identical to the 350 for our conversation. On the bench, from left to right is the boot, the impulse line ( attached to the division wall), the division wall and lastly the steel clamp. Ultimately I think the fuel to air ratio is what gets messed up. But I think that's a result of poor impulse to bring the fuel out of the tank. The throttle is all about air. The fuel moves by pressure differential created by the piston movement in the cylinder. It's the fuel pump.

He's somewhere between fluid dynamics and calc III. I always hung on to that once I thought B was getting too much credit. I'm may be remembering it to my benefit anyway. The more I mess with these machines the more I'm impressed with the engineering. Fun.
I come from the mechanics point of view, I understand engineering in the 'laymans' terms, but I was not interested in trying to remember tensile strengths and such. I work with engineers in my current employ, and they can be a curse at times (or is it that I seem to just curse at them at times??). However, we have made bearings that go into the fuel supply system of the rocket engines of SpaceX, so they must be doing something right. (Now there's a car floating in space.. guess our terrestrial junkyards are all full up.) I very much appreciate the benefits of an advanced education, I just could never afford to "stay the course". I have done most of my learning on my own, without the price tag associated with the "degree". I figure that is what most of college is, paying for someone to "certify" that you learned something. I do it because I can, it appeals to me. The Internet has opened up more information than most imagine.. but then again, libraries lose funding all the time these days. Kinda sad. Thx for the education you gave me today.
