Yes some is the wire through the wall is live but it’s getting redone this spring when we pull new wiring through the house.

It shocked me to hear that we should leave the supports out! He did a very thorough inspection before telling me that.

Looks like I’m using blown in insulation and decking it because we still need the space for storage. We are debating a floating floor above the existing ceiling in order to get another 3” of insulation up there. That should put it at 13” a far cry from the 15 I want but better than nothing. Now the issue is weight and wether or not it can handle it...

Air sealing will more than make up for that 3 inches

I would replace all that knob and tube before adding any kind of insulation.
I would get all the wiring done the way you want it first as working around insulation can be labor intensive.

I can’t do a lot of it yet but the wiresI can are getting pulled into place and left until the bathroom remodel. You wouldn’t believe the rats nest of wiring in this place... I literally can’t get to half of it until the bathroom ceiling comes down.

The bedroom even has an old glass fuse box behind the closet paneling and no way to get to it so I had to cut an access panel in the closet around the box once I figured out where it was.

That had me really ticked off when I finally figured out why we had no power... I have already installed a new 200amp box in the basement and wired it up.

It’s a slow process... I’m putting access doors over the wiring sections on the ceiling floor so it’s easy to access when it comes time. I’m not to worried about the insulation that’s easy to pull out and put back.

I went and bought a pro foam gun so I can stop wasting foam cans. That thing is sweet! I’ve also noticed the cans go much farther!!!!

We have an old house too, around 1920-1930 sometime, maybe sooner, I only have inaccurate tax records. The attic has what was originally about 6 inches of blown in cellulose that appears to have settled to about three inches. A "certified" tag in the attic claims R-19. Who knows what was and was supposed to be there. There's two ceilings. The original one is beaverboard (or a duplicate) with lathe covering the seams and about 16 inches below that is a new 2x6 ceiling with gypsum covering . The original ceiling has some kind of weird one inch thick insulation that is sealed in paper, kinda like a giant padded envelope and the ceiling below it has the cellulose.
Kinda wish when we moved in in 1999 that I had had time to gut the place to the studs and start over.

Found time to get the second half in tonight. Pita that was.

Getting what wire I can pull ready for Sunday. That’s the big day to get wiring done... I hope...

Foamed the snot out of the boards I figure that will help keep rodents out and act like a glue. OSI foam is tuff stuff! It ain’t pretty but it’s stuck now..

So you really like that pro foam gun eh? Do the pro sized cans last longer...I mean I know they are bigger, but does the extra control mean less waste, therefore more foam for your dollar?
Thinkin maybe I need to spring for one with all the sealing I'm doing...those dang cans are a real PITA unless you can use it all in one shot.
Any suggestions on brands or anything?

YES! That thing is a money saver...

I have only gone through two cans so far but I’ve done A LOT of foaming. I’d say that because you can adjust the flow that is why they last longer.... Regular cans are full blast.

The other reason I love it is the fact that you close the valve and you don’t need to worry about using all at once. That’s the $$$ saver..
The foam stays usable indefinitely. They say every 30 days shoot a quick burst out of it if you haven’t used the can.

Before this I would spend $12 a can for regular foam then use half and throw the can out because it’s unusable if you don’t use it all at once.

These two cans have gone easily 3 times farther than what you’d use out of a regular can due to being able to adjust the flow to what is needed for the crack or gap size.

I’ve also found OSI quad foam is WAY better for air sealing than great stuff. It’s what I have been using before the foam gun and now with the foam gun.

The OSI quad caulk is also superior to anything else I’ve ever used...

I buy great stuff for $2.50 per can when on sale at Menards...think I have a few cans of "their brand" that I got for $2 per can.
