is your goal to get the sag out? because this won't. think about it, if the roof is sagging the exterior walls are pushing out. Can it be fixed ? yes you can get the sag out but it will be quite a bit more involved.

First question is it a one or two story house Pete

A quick diagram with roof pitches and floor plan would help

Looking at previous pics looks like a 1 and 3/4 home top floor about 5 feet up is roof pitched?

I was suggesting collar tie peak 0127181447.jpg and depending on wall beneath a carrying wall towards middle on each side to remove sag.

    Sorry phone takes crapy photos

I’ll draw it out when I get a chance!

No I don’t want to get the sag out it’s a very old house.. I’d rather support it where it’s at the house has long since settled.

The joists do sit on walls on both ends thankfully. That was actually my biggest fear:whistle:

    Triangle supports are better then?

triangles are the strongest building shape, one side can not move unless another side moves. so if the one side of the triangle sitting on the beam wants to move it has to move the other one going up to the roof on the other side, transferring the load and increasing strength.

think about a roof truss, you could actually build one using the existing rafters and ceiling joists if they lined up, this would remove all the load off the ceiling.

again I would go with a collar tie as VT drew a piece of 3/4 PLYWOOD cut to fit then glued and nailed or screwed to the rafters, that should stop all movement, be the least work and the least intrusive. 16" triangles and you could get 3 rows out of a sheet of plywood probably about 12 triangles out of a sheet.

Yeah I always use a piece of cardboard with a pair of scissors and cut to make the template. I put two pieces of 3/4 on each side of the rafter and then tried to put a 2 by between it.

Right where I want to be.
I need to do that on my tractor's oil drain plug.
I agree on the rafter ties. Hadn't thought of plywood, but that's a good idea. Strong, like bull.

That’s what I am doing to the air compressor next time I change the oil that extension is a back saver and the valve is way easier than the screw cock it came with!

Lost me there lol. I haven’t done roof as a job in many years. Back in high school as a summer job. I hated every minute of it!
    That’s a good sign right!

It’s about 5’ center peak floor to roof and the length is about 9ft pitch bottom to center of peak.

The floor is roughly 16’ by 16’

Ok, was trying to figure out style of house to follow bearing walls not important now, one of those things easy to see hard to describe.
Collar ties will cure problem. I do doubles is it overkill, yeah, it's not real expensive and you never have to wonder especially when roofs leak.
