The more insulated pipe, the better. Keeping those internal flue temps up is very helpful to a good draw and a cleaner flue!
Whenever I've seen a unit like that one, the blower motor has always been mounted on the back of the unit, never on the top. Guess the previous owner thought it would be a good idea to set up a downflow configuration...?
Walls are made of cast iron. I'll probably end up making a new hole, don't feel like burning the garage down. Just need to figure out how to patch the old hole. Had it fired up the other day and she gets plenty hot.
OK, I'll be the bad guy here. Do you "REALLY" feel "Safe" installing that? Please don't take me wrong and I'm only looking out for you're safety. In the pic, Rear right corner it looks like pieces of rust falling out the bottom. Maybe you should have someone give it the once over or at least get a chipping hammer and tap around it to make sure she's solid and not going to burn through. Sorry for being a stick in the mud but you're safety is not worth saving a buck or two or possibly burning you place down at worst case scenerio.
The label says it's a Daka model 101 furnace. http://store.dakacorp.com/v/vspfiles/documents/modelnos101201301401.pdf
No worries. No it's nice and solid yet, no holes, I have a chipper and will probably paint it up someday here. I'm just using it to heat my old garage so I can screw around in there during the winter. Kind of just doing it for fun.
Hee Hee no worries, seems others did too. Interesting they say its an add on for forced air. I was hoping someone knows more about these.
Where does the air come out from the blower, looks confusing in the picture. As long as it's a nice solid stove I would not be concerned with the surface rust, stoves like that look like crap in a picture.
Looks to me as the blower is mounted to the top of the stove...typically where you would tie it in to duct work. If this is correct, and the blower is not just placed there for handling, then the blower would blow down and out the back end cut out (where the blower used to be mounted)...or maybe the whole bottom of the stove shroud has been removed also.
