My house late spring early summer. 84 DL anything goes. 3/8" .050". Be a ported 372 more than likely running it. I don't have an 84 DL bar for the 084 pipe saw

I'll do one up if you want it. I understand trying to keep it small.

I've filed chain every imaginable way possible for 30 + years and a lot of it. Ground a ton of feller buncher chain ,,,,, actually probably literally many tons. There is no substitute for hand filing once you figure it out . None. And once you get so proficient that you develop the "logger hook" of the top plate you'll see light saber results . That said in all the days I've spent in the logging biz I've only ever heard a small handful talk about profiling rakers . I muddled onto it just by happenstance scratching my head staring at a chain 20 years ago wondering how can I make this better . Logger hook or raker profiling ,,, Anyone else ????

I agree to some extent ... not very many guys can out-sharpen a machine but there ARE some that can !!!

Who are you referring to that can out sharpen a machine? I’d like to meet them!

I’ve done a lot of sharpening and do make very sharp chains better than factory with a grinder. I doubt human hands are capable of that level of precision.

I would think that some of the fellas that have posted in the square file sticky in this section can and do make better file than grind. Me not so much but I am trying.

I could never beat my hand filing with my ground chains. Silvey 600, swing arm, 2 RS2. SDM4 and pro sharp give more adjustments and may be able to

I am the opposite I can put a wicked edge on with my timber tuff and make super nice chains but hand filing even after years of doing it that way I just don’t do it well.. By hand I can make them respectable at best but not good..

I do want to square file another chain time is my problem.. It took forever to do the last one.

The diamond dresser came from Woodworkers supply it's a 120 grit. I'm very happy with it. I'd like to find a larger one to true up the wheel on my BarShop machine.

The CBN wheels came from Diamond Wheel. After my first try of sharpening with them I have gone back to the pink wheels for now. Someone suggested that the new CBN wheels may have a protective coating on them that needs cleaned off before the first use. I have not tried anymore chains with the CBN wheels yet.

    Thank ya sir!!!

My wheels are the excact same brand as yours.....mine worked great out of the box....I still use both stone and CBN wheels, just depends on the situation....I hate to hear that they aren’t working for you....I hope you try them agian sometime and see if they are both doing the same thing...if so, get ahold of them they will make it right....

I just did my 32” full chisel Oregon skip chain last night...I used the USG and a CBN wheel.....i don’t let my chains get to dull I usually just grab another saw LOL....but I love touching up Chains on the grinder, so easy, so sharp, so fast, and all cutters are the same length....

The people who roto-till with their saws and cut til their Chains smoke dont realize they have to take off more material than the guy that stops when his chain isn’t throwing chips...I learned a lot about how people treat their saws when I started sharpening peoples chains....the things you see are absolutely crazy!!!!

Here are some customer Chains.... 5530187D-E29A-4C67-869E-275AF43C4F3F.jpeg B1DA8B56-15C5-42BB-832C-6DC9F2567109.jpeg 1F1989F5-1F1F-456B-86F2-CB1CB0CFC8A7.jpeg

    dall yes sir I can!!!!

bocefus78 let me start out by saying I am no expert and I am always learning, I am always Leary of the guy whom seems to “know it all”....I have been lucky enough to have a few guys that have had a lot of experience help me get started right, then I put my nose to the grind stone and set my goals high....when I started grinding I wanted to be able to grind a chain that cut as good or better than new, I have done that...

Ok as far as angles on my Oregon 520 I put the head tilt at 55, I use the manufacturer recommended top plate Angle, (for Stihl usually 30, Oregon usually 25)....now when it comes to the tilt, on customers Chains I usually don’t use it....now IF you do want to use the tilt, remember this....there are little marks on the base you use to set the top plate angle...when you use the tilt, it changes the top plate angle....also when using the “tilt” the head tilt angles change too....what angles are you currently using, and if I you have a question I will try to answer it!!!!!

Here is a picture of the witness marks (arrows) you use when setting the top plate angle and head tilt angle when you use the “tilt”....I curled the areas in blue hopefully you can see the marks I am reffering to...
