    I like the rake best myself as opposed to a hoe type

    Would you mind telling us what leaks you found? I've wondered this year since switching to dsp if I should find a way to seal the pipe to the top of my IS and if I should somehow seal the telescopic gap of the dsp. Or am I just getting too picky? Lol

    The telescoping joint leaked the most & one of the 45° connections,
    IMO; none of the friction/tapered joints are air tight,

    Mine is in the basement, so I wrapped the whole length in foil
    & have much better success burning on low.

    Yea
    One problem with a cat stove burning on low,
    it can loose the draft & any leak can pull in cool air & amplify it.
    Double wall pipe helps.

    Somewhere, I did see some high temp, stove pipe joint compounds, maybe at a wood stove store ?

    On my Liberty install I sealed each joint that I wasn’t planning on removing with the high temp sealant. Rutland?? Not sure of the brand now. It was wayyy overkill but I was worried about any potential leaks in the dsp. It’s telescoping double wall and I had many joints due to appliance adapter, elbows, etc.

    Isn't there such a thing as a trim ring that seals or even black foil tape that can be removed? The whole wrap thing might not fly about as well as the insulated duct look won't lol

    I've used the hi-temp caulk and it eventually cracks, crumbles, and falls apart.
    Um, buy her a new ring......again, she won't notice the pipe. Not for a couple minutes anyway.

    I actually want something that will fall back out. I have to slide the pipe up in the off season to try out my new sooteater. New ring.......it's almost like she is has paid you to do more hinting online HA!!

    I once went looking for a ring for my sson to be now-wife, and the guy wanted $6,000. He didn't want me to walk away so I played along. He ended up offering to sell it for $900, and would have probably still made a bunch on it. I walked, but I had fun.
    Anyway, the caulk thing might be a good choice. Cheaper than a $6,000 ring. :rofl: :lol:

    Good info. I've noticed the same. I've got a bunch of oak I've been learning with and have done the same. Small splits seem to move enough gas to burn the coal bed down.

    I can also see through a pipe joint(fire glow) when I open the bypass. Time for some joint compound.
